Serving Sizes for IIFYM

I had a bunch of messages and comments yesterday asking accusing me of photoshopping my legs, instead of responding to all of those, ain't no one got time for that, I thought I'd address it here.
I guess my wide set hips make some of you uncomfortable, so sorry for my genetics. If I am truthful enough to post my extra skin and post baby body then I think I would be ok posting untouched pictures of what I look like now. Let's just be really clear about this, my body is a reflection of consistency at the gym and with my diet.  It really only bugs me because I honestly want all of you who are struggling with weight to know - YOU CAN DO THIS TOO. I have no magic powers, no secret formula, and I share my macros, my workouts, and my food with you.

I get up every morning to work on those legs.

I figured out how much of each one I should be eating and then I WENT AND EXECUTED IT. Not perfectly, not every day, but with enough consistency that I changed my body. I understand that it's not a diet for everyone, but I only preach what I know and I know this worked for me and I love my food and I love my body. If you don't understand how I can eat Pumpkin Ice Cream and still lose weight that's ok, but I did and it is possible.

And that's all I have to say about that subject.

My Protein Brownies with Pumpkin Ice Cream really made my night, it was a long day and the last 15 minutes I sat on the couch enjoying this was pure heaven. 325 for 25ish minutes in an 8x8 pan.

▶️ 150g FF Greek yogurt
▶️ 227g FF cream cheese (melted)
▶️ 60g unsweet dark cocoa
▶️ 240g egg whites
▶️ 40g Truvia baking blend
▶️ 2 packs Splenda
▶️ 2 tsp baking powder
▶️ 60g reduced cal butter (I used "I can't believe it's not butter lite")

The numbers I'm on currently to start increasing my food, yes I paid to upgrade MFP. I did a Periscope the other day about how to do the 'math' for IIFYM. I forgot how much of a pain it was to try to figure out serving sizes when you are new to this!

First, scan or look up your food item. If it's packaged you can just scan the barcode by tapping that barcode in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Don't choose the first one you see when you do a search, make sure it looks legit - if fats, carbs, or protein are missing from the entry it's not a good one to use. I also search with the word grams in the search bar because that's how I weigh it.

Whether you scan it or search it you can tap on the serving size and it will pull up a dropdown, if you are lucky it will say 1g, if not you'll need to have a calculator handy. I keep one in the kitchen always.

This entry did not have a 1g option so I left it as default - .2 cup which is 28g of cheese - it tells you the serving size in grams on the back of bags and boxes of food.

To know how much of a serving you used do this formula - MEMORIZE this formula.

Amount you ate {in grams or Oz's} DIVIDED BY Serving size {in grams or Oz's}

So I weighed out my cheese and divided by 28g {because that's what the bag said was one full serving}.

Does that make sense? This concept is very important, you need to be able to calculate portions of a serving so you can hit your numbers. You don't always need one full serving of something!

Here's the video I did on it if that's helpful!

  1. I'm really shaking my head at people who have the audacity to question your integrity. Geez Louise! Thank you for being yourself at all times!

  2. Wow, I feel the same way!! Such losers to actually make comments to you about photos...WTF cares???? Oh my, anyway, those of us who have been around with you for quite some time know, trust, and look forward to your efforts you take to help all of us and share your UPS and DOWNS in life. It is a great big world we live in...so much nicer when we don't hate on others :) You are beautiful as always, and thanks again for the IIFYM info. I upgraded to myfitnesspal as well so I can track my nutrition...been doing it regularly for almost 40 days now. I love it, worth the cost. Again, something I would probably not have known about or been okay in trying without your trusted reviews.

  3. I have been very curious about macros and IIFYM that you are always talking about.
I've been hitting the gym consistently for almost a full year. Yes, I can tell I've leaned up and have gained muscle definition, however, the number on the scale doesn't seem to budge. I know, I know, I shouldn't pay attention to that number, and for the most part, I don't. I try to pay attention to how my clothes are fitting. There isn't much change there. Some are still tight. Now that I'm consistent and motivated for the gym, after a year phew, I know I need to tackle my diet. I hate using that word. I need something flexible and easy. Which is why I'm asking about the macros and IIFYM. I was using my FitBit food tracker, and before that, I used Spark People. Do you have some kind of guide that you used when you started? If so, do you mind sharing?

  4. That's the thing about "fans" they just keep talking and you just keep getting better! I've been following you for what seems like forever!! Even before my heart, body and mind were ready to make the changes to better myself and now I'm on the bus (or rollercoaster as it has been) towards me being in a better place and though you don't know me from the next person who follows you, YOU have been there with me and so far with your words and all of your "y'alls" in my head you've helped me and hand holding me from the 300 pound club into the 200 vip room :) while it's still 294 it's a huge step for me. I stinking love your realness and how you genuinely want to share YOUR story with everyone. Which I might add it's their choice to hit that damn follow button and they should probably get their own ish in order before they start looking in other people's backyards. Much love from this curvy girl!!

  5. I JUST LOVE YOU!! Thank you for all your help! I never even knew there was a switch on the bottom of my scale to switch from ounces to grams!! I would have to ask Siri to convert it for me every time. <3

  7. Sister you just hold your head up high and know that your blood, sweat and tears went into losing every one of those pounds and inches. The ones hating on you are probably bitter about most things.

  10. There will always be haters who are probably sitting on their couches with nothing better to do than to beat someone up who is actually working really hard to get their body to what they want it to be. I have always found that your blog is very transparent on honest and those who don't feel that you are being honest should probably just not follow and stop wasting their time and yours with negative comments. You are awesome and you look great! God Bless you and your family.

  11. Haters gonna hate. They are writing these thoughts out of their own insecurities. Thank you for taking YOUR TIME to post/share/inspire. Keep it up and channel your inner Beyonce (To the left, to the left). You are one of the few blogs I read/follow on a consistent basis, because you are REAL. Thank you.

  13. We're going to try that again. That video helped a ton. I tried IIFYM earlier this year and stressed myself out trying to reach my goal and be point for point every day. Lost 10lbs doing it, but quit. So me and the hubs are going to try it. He'll eat whatever I cook, so I'm not worried there. We're gonna have to join a gym (again) too. Get this stubborn far off. As for your pictures, I love seeing the real you. You've worked your ass off.

  14. I saw your pic yesterday and it was so inspiring! I didn't even notice the "thigh gap" until someon in the comments said they were "goals" lol. I have followed you for quite a while (before Aiden was born) and think you are super inspiring. It also helps that you have a similar body type as mine (pear shape). I'm not sure about the height though as I'm 5'8 and you seem both tall and short in your pics (does that make sense?) Anyway, I love your blog, IG, and everything you do! Keep it up because you have inspired many. I just paid to upgrade MFP to closely track my macros so here I go! Just for now, I used your numbers. Thanks for being awesome!

  16. I hate all the negative talk. I can't imagine being you. You really put it out there - good AND bad! My fear is that you'll get tired of all the negative talk and disable your blog like so many others. I check your blog everyday and am always disappointed when you don't post - although I can't imagine why because it doesn't seem like you have anything going on in your life. haha

  17. Chin up! Your blog is the exact motivation I needed to start my weight loss journey and overall journey to a better me. In the wise words of T-Swift "Don't you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine". Also, people thought your legs were photoshopped?!?! I cannot think of a bigger compliment! Keep doing you, girl!

  18. Thank you for being so transparent. I appreciate how much you share and it is helping me to have a healthy, balanced lifestyle. You are the real deal!!!

  19. Macros are the shiz, lets be real. Its the only 'diet' that works because its a) not a diet. I love MFP, esp for creating recipes and then editing them is simple if you need to tweak macros for the day

  20. Way to go! Honestly, you inspire me everyday. I don't have kids and i'm not yet married and I say "if Skinny Meg can do it, I definitely don't have an excuse not to do it!" You are awesome. The end.

  24. I'm sorry that people are bullies, even as adults. You inspire on the daily and keep it so real. Thank you! People have their own insecurities and it's sad they take it out on others.

  25. I think you are very brave for posting your pics! Bravo to you for all the hard work and dedication! Screw the haters.

  26. Some folks are simply unbelievable in the hurtful comments department...Shrug. Them. Off. I haven't even been reading your blog that long but even I know how hard and seriously you work on your food and exercise. Keep up the great work and writing and boutique-ing!! ;-)

  27. This is ridiculous! Fake modified foods will never make you healthy! Please for the sake of others stop preaching this nonsense, we do not need to eat cancer ridden chemical foods to be skinny!!!! Sad that you will never let this comment be published, you are not helping others!

  28. Thank you for showing honest, real photos. Those of us that are working hard and doing what we can to improve how we feel need to know we are not alone in the struggle. You inspire me to keep trying! I have about 40 more pounds to go and 26.2 miles to get there (scheduled my first marathon for January 2017).
