A Few of My Favorite Things.

Happy Tuesday! I'm going to do an updated post on some of my favorite things, most have to do with food #sorrynotsorry

First, these Pioneer Woman dishes from Walmart, although I abhor Wally World I love these! They remind of of Anthro, but much much cheaper. I have had zero issues with chipping and I even went back and bought the smaller plates and a few coffee cups. Also the Skinny Syrups Sugar Free Pumpkin Caramel Flavoring Syrup a must.

I'm obsessed with hot sandwiches for lunch, usually I use Jennie-O Turkey Breast, colby cheese, and lots of pickles all pressed in my Proctor-Silex Sandwich Maker . I use this little gadget every day, for me and the kids! I love that you don't have to butter the bread first, saving those fat grams for fun foods.

Speaking of easy, I use this at least once a week too for dinners - Quesadilla Maker. The kids love a chicken, cheese, with squash quesadilla.

Speaking of food, this little bottle of awesomeness is good on errrrrything. Flavor God Seasonings I use it on chicken, in my eggs, and veggies.

I finally broke down and bought a large jewelry armoire and I freaking LOVE it! Hives and Honey "Chelsea" Jewelry Armoire has more than enough room and I have a lot of jewelry, the inside has large drawers and top flips open for earrings and rings.

Ok, this is completely random, but worth mentioning because I have yet to find any instore that I love as much. They are LED, but the light is super bright and white and changes the rooms coloring completely. I have been buying them every so often and switching out the lights all over the house, they aren't cheap, but last FOREVER and ever and ever. 60 Watt Equivalent Daylight Light Bulb

If you have some items you just love leave me a comment and let me know so I can check them out!

Here I am!

Sorry for the lack of posting last week, it was market week in Dallas and I was there for most of the day Wednesday and Thursday, then Friday the GREAT FLOOD showed up and I had spotty internet. I'm having the most difficult time with my damn Mac and iPhone, my photos won't show up in iPhoto after I download there from my phone and I'm about to lose my mind. They are meant to work together perfectly, right?!?!?! UGH. I seriously start cussing every day trying to get this to work, finally I just said eff it and put them on Dropbox. Stupid Apple, I hate to love you. Anyways, the Baldish One and I made the most amazing protein brownies - seriously amazing heated up and topped with a bit of ice cream!

Just don't leave them unattended and cooling on the counter where your husband can come and cut himself a piece before you have a chance to weigh it. You'd think he would know better by now.

I was supposed to run a half marathon Saturday morning, but in true southern form people started freaking out about RAIN and canceled the race. Seriously, over rain. I think a few places REALLLLLLL north of us got a bunch, but in the metroplex is was nothing and it really irritates me the way people blow events out of proportion. 100 bucks I won't get back.

So I just went to the gym and had myself a killer leg workout! After just a week of increased calories I can already feel the difference in my workouts, I have more energy and stamina. I weighed myself yesterday and I'm the same so I went ahead and increased them a bit more, trying to get myself to the top of my threshold before my surgery next week because after that no exercise for a few weeks and I still want to be eating around 2000 calories.

I went home and made a high protein breakfast with a side of veggies and toast. All soccer games were canceled of course, perfect day to do a little furniture shopping. I've never been to Nebraska Furniture Mart, for whatever reason I had it in my head they had ugly furniture, I don't really know why I thought that. In my search for a new bed I saw one online that I liked, but wanted to check it out in person.

I have to say I was highly impressed with the section and prices they had, lots of low and high end furniture, trendy, traditional, and modern. Of course Oliver hated my first two choices, this one....

and this one. I loved the rhinestones on this one, but not the bedding, Oliver said it was too girly and I told him if he'd loved me he'd let me get this one. Nope. Rude.

So I went with a more neutral one, see how much I love him?? I'm still on the fence about a dresser/armoire, but I found one on Craigslist I liked so I'm going to try to make time to swing by and see it this week. Everything I love is either too $$ or too girly, Oliver's not a fan of mirrored furniture, this stuff is just easier if I buy and ask for forgiveness later.

Family pictures were Sunday and Madison was way overdue for a haircut, I've been asking her for weeks to do it and she kept saying she wanted it long like Mama's. We get to Sweet and Sassy and she declares she wants to cut it off, side eye. So we bob it and I couldn't be happier, it just fits her face better, less crying about knotty messes every morning, and no more ponytails every day!

Cardigan from OMB.
Sunday was gloomy and dark with a bit of drizzle, so no pictures. We just hung out at home cleaning and such, I did get dressed enough to have dinner with my friends along with a skinny Rita or two. Construction on the house starts next week so this week we have to empty out our garage and dining room completely, pray for me and Oliver to not kill each other. I know the end result will be fantastic, but the next few months are going to be hard for all of us.

Wrapping Up the Summer Challenge #motivation

Happy Tuesday! As we wrapped up the Summer Challenge last week I thought I would share a few stories from some of the winner of the challenge. We just began a new 12 weeks and I'm sorry to say it is full, but the next one will be after the Holidays :)

I'm proud of all the ladies who really gave effort in the last Challenge, changing your lifestyle, developing healthy habits, and sticking to them day after day is no small feat. They had up's and down's, but the real winners are the ones who never gave up! Thanks to all of you who participated for providing such a great community for everyone!!

Hi! I'm Kristin. I live in a small town in northeastern Oklahoma. I am a wife to a wonderful husband and a mom to 3 year old Mattie and 1 1/2 year old Blake. I have struggled with my weight for a long time--middle school being the earliest I remember being really self conscious about my weight.

I've tried low carb, weight watchers, hcg drops, clean eating--nothing really worked for me. I attempted a Skinnymeg challenge before but my mind just wasn't in it. I was overwhelmed with everything and quit after only a few weeks. I found my weight slowly creeping up and eventually stepped on the scale at the beginning of the summer challenge weighing 219.6. That was such a disappointing moment for me.

I knew I needed this challenge and the support of the other women involved to help me be successful. I had my macros calculated by Paige and from there just did my best to hit macros and get my workouts in.

By the end of the challenge I weighed in at 185.4 and had found a new confidence in myself that I hadn't seen in a long time! I won the challenge and the progress picture competition, but I found so much more in myself! I believe in myself now and know that I can do whatever I set my mind to!

My advice to others is to set your mind to it, set attainable goals, celebrate your successes (NOT with food), and realize that we all may fall down but we have to get ourselves up and push forward!

After I had my daughter in September of last year, I came to the conclusion that it was the norm for moms to be overweight. Most of my meals were fast food or quick and easy like hamburger helper. I was always on the go. Finding the time to spend with my family, complete chores around the house, and work full time on nights was really hard and draining. And then making time for myself was next to impossible.
In June, I went on a family vacation to Mexico. Finding swimsuits and outfits for the trip proved to be difficult. I was very uncomfortable with my body and was self conscious on vacation. I knew it was time to make a change when I saw a picture from our trip. It's the one shown in the before picture. I made the decision to change my life because I was tired of being unhappy with myself. Around that time, I saw a post about another 3 month challenge Megan was going to be putting together. It was the perfect time for me to make a change. Signing up for the challenge was the best thing I could have done for myself.
It wasn't easy and there were times I wanted to quit but with the encouragement and guidance from everyone in the challenge, I kept with it. These women are amazing and truly inspiring. It was awesome being surrounded by such positive women throughout those 3 months. I stuck with it and lost 19.4 lbs (8.5 inches).
I am working out 5-6 times a week anywhere between 30-60 minutes. My workouts are completed at home usually in the afternoons since I work nights. I started with the 21 day fix workouts and using the iifym diet. Once I finished the 21 day fix, I started running on my treadmill, completing HIIT workouts from YouTube, and using my dumbbells to strength train. My family and friends have not only noticed the change physically but also emotionally. I'm the happiest I've ever been and it shows in pictures. The 3 month challenge has given me the tools I need to continue my fitness journey for the rest of my life. I am currently training for a 15k that takes place on October 31st and then I will begin training for a half marathon in the spring.

smile emotico
This has been the most amazing experience for me, and life changing doesn't even really cover it. I think I started how a lot of women do… a good weight growing up, then I went to college and lost all control of what I ate and drank. And I never got a hold of it through my 20's and early 30's.
I started following you a couple years ago on IG/Facebook/the blog and I saw the post about the challenge and literally stalked your Facebook page for the announcement! I'm talking blocked myself off from meetings at work to keep refreshing Facebook type stalking smile emoticon When I joined I didn't know what to expect, but from day one I felt a part of a community of the most supportive women I had ever been around. The thing about this challenge is that it never felt like a competition…it felt like a place to go for encouragement and fantastic food and exercise ideas. When one of us was down, the others would lift us up. It was an incredible experience and I am thrilled to have been in the top 3, but I wouldn't have gotten there without everyone in the challenge being so supportive. That's another thing - I don't feel like this was a weight loss challenge… it was a get healthy challenge. There were several women who didn't lose a ton of weight but they lost inches and gained healthy habits to use for the rest of their lives.
I'm so excited to be back again for the Final Countdown. What a great group to be in around the holidays! Hello huge ass Thanksgiving dinner and holiday parties… I got you. smile emoticon

Lead Legs.

Friday both of my parents were out of town so Madison and I spent a rare Friday evening watching Friends, she told me to pretend to sleep on her so she could take a picture.

Saturday my 4:11am alarm went off and I laid there for a few minutes contemplating skipping my long run, but I got up mostly because I promised other people I'd be there and I'm no flake. I knew it was going to be a tough one, my rest day was the following day so it was day 6 in a row of working out and I did legs the day before. I was beat by mile 5 and my legs felt like lead, but I figured if I can keep a good pace while running on exhausted legs then I would be good as gold for the half marathon next Saturday.

I stretched before the baby woke up, it's almost impossible to do anything on the floor if he's around :) I've been diligent about stretching my ham stings, calves, and rolling my quads. My calves were on fire though and I don't wonder if maybe I should try some different shoes? That will have to wait until after my surgery though.

Everyone got up for breakfast before we had to head out to Madison's soccer game. Aiden is refusing more and more to sit in a highchair, he does pretty good at the table, but still makes me nervous on the chair. I promised Madison I would try to stop yelling when she's on the field, keyword TRY. I'd say I scaled it back to about 70%, but she's still unsure of where to be or who to guard and I'm just trying to help :)

We've been hitting a few furniture stores on the weekend looking for a new bed for Madison, she wants a bunkbed and I'm on the fence. I think she'll love it now, but will be over it in a year or two, they ain't cheap either.

I think a full size will last her longer, so I told her we'll just have to wait and see what Santa brings. I was pretty surprised that so many stores don't carry just upholstered headboards for kids {or even adults} so I'm going to have to so some shopping online.

We dropped the kids off with the inlaws to spend the night, Oliver and I were going to a Halloween party. I bought a cat mask and bodysuit and Oliver told me it was lame so I dug around and found my 80's costume that I bought from American Apparel years ago. I spent like over a 100 bucks on this outfit, but it's come in handy quite a few times! The shoes I found at Wal-Mart and the pony shirt is from a thrift store I think.

Super shocking that I actually had all this makeup on hand LOL The eyeshadow is Urban Decay and the lips are Revlon, blush is Mac. I had a HECK of a time getting those pinks off, I put a primer underneath from Nars and it was sticking like glue!

Oliver was all about this stupid clown mask and pretending to choke me all night, he once again had to learn the hard way that he is closer to 40 than 20 and can't drink like he's a kid anymore. Side eye.

It was a great party and I had a ton of fun, we even won a few bucks :) I had every intention of sticking to my macros, but the long run had me extra hungry and my will power crumbled with I came across the amazing food platters. Seriously - apples dipped in a mix of Pumpkin Puree and Cool Whip. Justttttttt yes. I only had 2ish drinks, I'd much rather eat than drink anyways.

We slept in until 8 and I got up to make a big breakfast, Oliver was feeling like shit of course so I was extra cheerful and loud while I scrubbed the kitchen, cooked up some chicken, and made myself a 90g of protein breakfast pizza on a Lavash Flatbread. I'll tell you the real problem with eating a huge amount of protein for breakfast - I wasn't hungry at all until close to 7pm.

Then I put on real clothes to go meet some new babies!! They were both so dang cute, it's really a good thing my tubes are tied.

I left my phone sitting around and someone put it into Spanish and every time I tried to voice type it would put this crap! Ugh.

Taking a rest day had me good and ready to go for leg day this morning! I love when my week starts off with a good sweat sesh!!

Serving Sizes for IIFYM

I had a bunch of messages and comments yesterday asking accusing me of photoshopping my legs, instead of responding to all of those, ain't no one got time for that, I thought I'd address it here.
I guess my wide set hips make some of you uncomfortable, so sorry for my genetics. If I am truthful enough to post my extra skin and post baby body then I think I would be ok posting untouched pictures of what I look like now. Let's just be really clear about this, my body is a reflection of consistency at the gym and with my diet.  It really only bugs me because I honestly want all of you who are struggling with weight to know - YOU CAN DO THIS TOO. I have no magic powers, no secret formula, and I share my macros, my workouts, and my food with you.

I get up every morning to work on those legs.

I figured out how much of each one I should be eating and then I WENT AND EXECUTED IT. Not perfectly, not every day, but with enough consistency that I changed my body. I understand that it's not a diet for everyone, but I only preach what I know and I know this worked for me and I love my food and I love my body. If you don't understand how I can eat Pumpkin Ice Cream and still lose weight that's ok, but I did and it is possible.

And that's all I have to say about that subject.

My Protein Brownies with Pumpkin Ice Cream really made my night, it was a long day and the last 15 minutes I sat on the couch enjoying this was pure heaven. 325 for 25ish minutes in an 8x8 pan.

▶️ 150g FF Greek yogurt
▶️ 227g FF cream cheese (melted)
▶️ 60g unsweet dark cocoa
▶️ 240g egg whites
▶️ 40g Truvia baking blend
▶️ 2 packs Splenda
▶️ 2 tsp baking powder
▶️ 60g reduced cal butter (I used "I can't believe it's not butter lite")

The numbers I'm on currently to start increasing my food, yes I paid to upgrade MFP. I did a Periscope the other day about how to do the 'math' for IIFYM. I forgot how much of a pain it was to try to figure out serving sizes when you are new to this!

First, scan or look up your food item. If it's packaged you can just scan the barcode by tapping that barcode in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Don't choose the first one you see when you do a search, make sure it looks legit - if fats, carbs, or protein are missing from the entry it's not a good one to use. I also search with the word grams in the search bar because that's how I weigh it.

Whether you scan it or search it you can tap on the serving size and it will pull up a dropdown, if you are lucky it will say 1g, if not you'll need to have a calculator handy. I keep one in the kitchen always.

This entry did not have a 1g option so I left it as default - .2 cup which is 28g of cheese - it tells you the serving size in grams on the back of bags and boxes of food.

To know how much of a serving you used do this formula - MEMORIZE this formula.

Amount you ate {in grams or Oz's} DIVIDED BY Serving size {in grams or Oz's}

So I weighed out my cheese and divided by 28g {because that's what the bag said was one full serving}.

Does that make sense? This concept is very important, you need to be able to calculate portions of a serving so you can hit your numbers. You don't always need one full serving of something!

Here's the video I did on it if that's helpful!
