One Year on IIFYM.

I realized that it's been one year since I started flexible dieting, that obviously calls for a before and after. I've had good weeks, great weeks, hungry weeks, terrible weeks, and I just keep going. I lost a bunch of weight, gained some muscle, ran a marathon, PR'd a half, and shaved almost 2 full minutes off my running time. This is not just about my scale number this is about how I look, how I feel about my body, and my performance. I don't share my weight on here very often, it honestly hasn't changed that much in the last few months, you just get to a point where it's really difficult to lose more. So, what do you do?

I went off my diet for a few weeks and ate all the foods. It's was a wonderful mental break for me, I still weighed and tracked my foods, I still had numbers to hit each day, but they were large and meeting them wasn't really difficult. Mostly I struggled with coming in under, especially on the weekends when I was busy and running around a lot.

Her top is from Feather Weights
I sure did have days where I felt fluffy and doubted the process!! I stayed off the scale, flexed in the mirror, and reminded myself that you need to eat to build muscle - #goals When I went on maintenance I was 152 and today when I weighed I was 154, but I'm also on my period so that could be from bloat or whatever - honestly it doesn't really matter - weight is weight.

Ok, thanks for the pep talk Ryan.

I absolutely have gotten stronger! I thrusted, sorry but LOL at that, 175 pounds for 10 reps. I bought a Squat Sponge off Amazon - must have! It makes a huge difference!

I have not pushed myself on my back squat mostly because a year ago I injured my left knee and it's never been the same, it made me so nervous to put a ton of weight on it, I had to stop working out and running while I rehabbed and it sucked - a lot! Anyways I decided to man up and work my weight up a  bit.

I was doing fine until I got to 155, it made my knees wobble, my form sucked, and just an overall no go. Granted this was AFTER a 5 mile run and on my 5th set {working my way up}. I got a lot of great advice on IG so I gave it another go a few days later...

Same weight, 155. I have lifting shoes, but at 4:36am I was running late and couldn't find them so I just squatted in my socks. I widened my stance which made me so nervous for my knee, but it actually was totally fine! I still go down lower on one side to compensate for my knee, but I'm working on building each leg up individually to try to correct it - hence lots of split squats and one legged extensions on the machine.

I get asked every single day be someone - how do I begin? You just go out there and try! Do I always know what I'm doing? No. Do I always do everything right? Hell no. Do I try my hardest every day? Damn straight.

I started a cut again this week, but a slow one so I'm sitting at 1978 calories right now which is a lot of food actually. I want to go slow and preserve any muscle I gained while trying to lose fat - everyone's dream goal right?! It also sucks that you can totally lose fat, but not from where you want - my boobs have never been smaller, in fact I'm down to 1 bra that actually fit right now. So IIFYM Gods if you hear me - TAKE IT OFF MY BOOTY.

I set myself a small goal - one month of cutting and hitting my macros like a good girl and I'll treat myself to a pair of expensive jeans. Clothes motivate me :)

  4. You look amazing & are constantly an inspiration for me! I am a mom who powerlifts and saw your first squat video you posted on IG. Even just losing the running shoes helped your form tremendously! If you lose the foam neck bar too it will help you to feel more secure in the lift. But you've already made huge improvements! Because who gives two craps what the scale says when you can squat like a boss! Keep it up lady ;)

    2. I read a post on bodybuilding.com that suggested how to get better form. The guy said to pretend you're stepping on paper towels and as you squat down you want to tear them apart with your feet. So far it's helped!!

  5. You look awesome! I have a question, if you don't mind. How many calories do you typically burn during workouts? I'm struggling. I feel like my eating is good, but im not losing. I'm hypo thyroid, so that doesn't help. I'm thinking I'm not doing enough in my workouts. I need to get a Polar. Congrats!! Your hard work is clearly paying off!

    1. I really don't know, when I run I burn 100 cals every 10 minutes but with weights it just depends.

  9. Hi Megan! You look great!! I am getting ready to start IIFYM and I read that you use My Fitness Pal to track them, do you pay the $10/month to get the Macro set up vs the calorie set up or is there still a way to switch it up on your own to get more accurate numbers?? Thanks for continuing to share and motivate, you rock!!! :0)

    1. I'm not sure about My Fitness Pal, but I use Spark People and you can change the goals for C/F/P/F and set them up for your macros. MFP might be the same.

    2. To get my goals to the exact grams I had to pay the $50/yearly upgrade fee. so annoying, but I needed it.

    3. What app did you use? Spark People? And then $50 upgrade for a year?

  10. Do you have any tips or ways to get the bar positioned for thrusts? I always feel like it's so awkward and I can't get it right. Plus, the weird looks in the gym do not help...

  11. You look amazing! But if I want to start, where do I start? Can you please help me? What do I need to do today to start tomorrow?

  12. You have had an incredible year Meg. Though our journeys toward health are nowhere similar, I am continually inspired by your ability to take your health into your hands. It’s been a pleasure to watch you transform and do it in a balanced manner. So many people proceed to lose weight in a restrictive manner than cannot be done long term. It’s so refreshing to see someone have fun while losing weight and enjoying the foods they actually enjoy! I cannot wait to see you continue to thrive and reach the goals you want. :)

  14. You are looking amazing! I am wondering if you would mind sharing your measurements? It would give a good frame of reference to your weight
and would help us know what size to order from OllieMarie!

  15. You are amazing! IIFYM question! I often hit my macros easily, but I'm still 150-200 calories short! Do I eat the calories, even though it would put me over on macros, or not worry about the calories?! Thank you! :)
