Making Monday's less terrible.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I know for a lot of people the stress of all that food being available can dampen your spirit.  As much as we try to believe the scale doesn't matter for a lot of women it does, the Holiday's being the most difficult time of year for weight loss too. It's personally taken me a long time to get to the point that I can honestly enjoy myself and still stick to my goals. 



 As much as I enjoy the food I enjoy the running before hand even more! I've participated in many Turkey Trots, but this year was even more enjoyable because it was a small private one we did with my weekly running group. I'm pretty sure this homemade 'medal' will be my all time favorite :)


It was just so nice to get together with everyone on a day of being thankful and celebrating our health, I never ever take that for granted. Running is a privilege, there are many people who struggle with their health for one reason or another and it's frustrating when your body doesn't cooperate. One such story that recently touch me can be seen here, so inspiring.


On any particular day off you can be sure that I am out and about for at least 12 hours of the day. After my run on Saturday I rushed home and got everyone ready for family pictures over an hour from our house. Any mother can tell you that getting an entire family ready for pictures is exhausting! From coordinating outfits, to trying to get the 5 year old to put on pants, it's very stressful. I literally have 2.6 seconds to eat in between activities. Once upon a time I would have just said - oh well I just don't have time to eat healthy or track my food - but if I want to reach my goals I need to be consistent even on weekends, holidays, and busy life moments.


One of my weekend tricks is to eat a super protein packed breakfast because usually it's harder to get that particular macro in while I'm out. I've master protein pancakes and I can literally make them in less than 10 minutes! Recently I switched to a new protein powder, the brand I was using was good, but I thought it may be causing me to have breakouts due to the hormones in the powder.

1/2 C Quaker Oats (dry weight)
1/2 cup hot water (to cook oats)
1 scoop protein powder (isolate)
1/4 C egg whites
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
Mix oats with hot water. Stir and let stand for a couple minutes till fluffy. Mix protein powder with the eggs and then mix this with the oats. Stir in the cinnamon and almond extract and fry on a hot girdle sprayed with PAM cooking spray.{recipe via SparkPeople}


The brand I'm testing out is Aloha, they are vegan and contain no added hormones that most 'regular' protein powders have. I used the vanilla in my pancakes and they were super tasty! In case you are wondering I top my cakes with a mix of Greek cream cheese mixed with a bit of vanilla extract and stevia to sweeten, pecans, and chocolate chips.


After every single workout I drink a protein shake while I get ready for work, if you are gonna do the gym time you better be sure to give your body what it needs to recover and build.  The texture is creamier than I'm used too, but it's not bad, and all those healthy ingredients make my body {and face!} very happy.


This last week I've used the Aloha brand - they offer a free trail which is nice because then you can test it out before you commit. I'm a little put off that I spent well over 60 bucks on the last brand and now I have huge tubs that I don't want to use.  The trail is 14 days with the benefit of becoming auto enrolled if you would like, cancel any time. I think it's really worth a {free} try if you are concerned with the ingredients in your current protein! 


 Next thing you know it's Monday and you are pleased with all your hard weekend work and how you feel starting another week of smashing your goals!

You can actually get it at Costco but we don't have those around here!! :)

  5. What was the hormone in the protein powder? I try to avoid extra hormones as much as possible and didn't even think of protein powder!!

  6. You are looking SO svelte Megan! And where did you get that cute hat for Aiden?Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, I'll go back and look. I also use a plant based protein powder and am really happy with it. It doesn't have the weird whey taste to it. and WOW thanks for sharing that link to the long distance runner with MS. That was so inspiring -made me cry!
