Hills and Cupcakes.

Saturday we had a huge company party that I was in charge of so that meant I had to get up at 3:45am and get my training run in, thankfully a friend offered to meet me so I wouldn't have to run alone in the dark. Dedication I tell you!

 I'm about to say something super sick - that was one easy run. It honestly felt like we only did 8 I was not tired at all, but I can only hope that feeling sticks around because I have another 18 this weekend.

I have found my perfect running pants at Cozy Orange, I HAVE to be sure they are clean for every run because they are just that comfortable.  When you are running is something for hours at a time comfort is important, the waistband is wide and the fabric is super soft so they fit like a second skin.  When your text messages look like this on Monday night you look forward to getting up at 4:27am to go run a bunch of hills.

 Plus check out those splits, one guess where the hills were. I was looking through my Time-Hop app and I saw 2 years ago I was running 10 miles at a 10 min pace, dang, I need to get myself back to that! I think after I finish this marathon I will check out some speed work they do at the track. I don't know what 800's are, but everyone was freakin' out so they must be good.

It pays to run with a baker - Poppy Locks is freaking amazing, not only are the delish, but she makes things that are gluten and paleo friendly. I seriously wish I had even a 10th of that cooking ability! Did I mention she has a rockin' bod and follows IIFYM? #girlcrush

Running groups can seem very intimidating - I always worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up or embarrass myself by running slower than everyone, but honestly it's been the best thing I've done for my running. It pushes me harder and it's so much more fun than running solo - if you are new to running or an old pro you should totally check out groups in your area, runners are just the best group of people! Heck - start your own group!

In other non running news - this is what I'm working on every night.



  1. an 800 is 2 laps around the track :)

    1. So you sprint the entire way around?

    2. Usually you go for time. Like you want to get to 8 minute mile pace for say a 5k. I would try to get 800 in 3:45 or so (sub 8). Then walk 400 repeat. I did lots of track speed work the one and only time I trained for time for a half. It works!

  2. Um those cupcakes look amazing!! I ran super slow for my marathon but now that I am training for a half it is easier to go fast.

  4. I'd run for cupcakes. I'm in a women's running group and tomorrow night we are having a fashion night with wine at a local running store. I've been getting up at 6am for Saturday runs.   5. I *love* my running group, especially the two I run with regularly...I don't know what I would do without them! You have helped inspire us to run a full in February, so our Skinny Meg love might die down with our longer runs :)

    2- I am in desperate need of a running group!
    3- 800's are 2x around the track (= half mile) and if that 12 miler felt easy, you could totally push up your speed a little. Totally capable! :)
    4- Baby is adorbs and cupcakes look well worth a long run!

  10. I've started running with a group of girls here at school and it is seriously SO much better than going it alone! I may be at the back of the pack, but they motivate me to even go in the first place + to keep going. You look amazing, Megan!
