Getting Fit for Fall.

This is about one month of progress, I'm feeling really good right now. Like *almost* back to the old me. My endurance is still not there, but it's getting better every week. I'm still 19 pounds away from pre-pregnancy weight, for an extra push I'm running another Diet Bet. I am DETERMINED to get myself into some smaller Fall clothes and I want my boots to go over my damn calves this year. It's all about the cute clothes for me!

If you are new and don't know about Diet Bet here's the scoop.
It runs from Aug 25th - Sep 23rd
You've got 4 weeks to lose 4% of your starting weight. To begin, everyone puts money into the pot. After four weeks, whoever hit their 4% goal is a winner and splits the pot.

I'm going to have to lose about 7 pounds, which is a little scary, but gah, think of my 'after' pic! I'm ready and willing to put in the work.

I am using the cable machine more and more at the gym, there are so MANY different ways to use this for any part of the body! I put together a upper body set that I do a lot - workin' the guns!

One of the most asked questions I receive is - how much cardio do you do versus how much weights?

Right now the answer is tricky because I've set a goal for myself to run a marathon at the end of the year.  I am not running to lose weight, in fact marathon training could possibly hinder my weight loss because sooner or later I'm going to need to cut out a day of weight lifting at the gym. I've also would really like to finish is at least 5 hours, so I'm taking my training seriously and that includes my nutrition.

I won't lie, my speed right now is slow and it's really really hot and humid out which I'm hoping is the culprit. I was dying after this run and it kills my confidence, like I'll never be able to get myself to 26, but my prayer is that once the weather cools off a bit things will get easier. Someone tell me it will - I open to being lied too ;) I've been using the Endomondo App and I really like it!

What I'm trying to figure out now is nutrition, how often I should be eating on longer runs. How many extra carbs should I take in, not just the day before but even the week before. I want  to maximize my results!  **Stay tuned for updates on this!

I also bought some new headphones to try  - Jabra SPORT Wireless Headphones

First off, they are super comfy and come will a bunch of different ear pieces to get a perfect fit. The sound is good and it was easy to set up. You do have to charge them and the battery life is only 4 hours, but I don't foresee myself listening to music for that amount of time. The arm band that comes with it for your phone is really comfortable, but you have to take your phone in and out to see it - no clear cover. I prefer to keep mine in my water bottle - Clean Bottle .

  2. I've never ran a full only half's but the humidity definitely slows me down. I live in Baton Rouge & the humidity is awful. I do soooo much better in cool weather. Training in the heat will only help you!

  7. You are looking great!! This Diet Bet thing sounds like a good idea, maybe it is just what I need to keep myself on track and going to the gym on a consistent schedule. I am going to talk to my gym buddy about this because I think it sounds really cool and we could keep each other on track! Also thanks for sharing the exercises, I always find myself wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out how the machines work!

  12. I tried to fill out the forms that gives you your macros, but it needs your body fat percentage. How do I get that?

    1. Use the athletes formula then it won't ask you for that.

  14. I just recently did the MFP update so my screen looks different than what your link shows, so I changed my goals to 30/30/40 and i've entered breakfast today. When I look at nutrition now it's showing carbs 74%/18/8 but when I go to today's nutrient details it shows the actual grams I've eaten so far. So my question is why does it show 74% carbs when my goal is 30% which is 125 grams and so far today i've eaten 37 grams but it's showing 74% for today? Sorry to be confusing but I'm so confused! If I could get your email I can send you screen shot and that might make it easier to understand!

    1. I'm a little confused by this, but I never look at my % I ONLY look at the actual numbers because all that matters is that I hit each g by +/- 5. Are your actual grams correct in MFP?
Your % will change through out the day and you don't need to worry about that. Hope that answers your question.

    2. I understand now, I think I was making it more difficult than it is.....One more question on cardio days do you follow the same macros? I know previously you said when selecting your exercise frequency (3 days etc) that means weight lifting.

    3. Not unless I'm doing more than an hour of running and on rest days I subtract 20g of carbs :)

  15. You are doing great! Don't worry so much about the pace. I know you want to be super fast, but if there's one think I've learned is that slow your roll and enjoy the ride. Also check out if the race has pacesetters. They are awesome. My guy from last year kept us in check. My girl Heidi finished in 4:58 and that's with a pace of 11:15-11:30 min mile. She didn't stop to pee either. Just a little perspective:)

  16. I need to step it up fast! I signed up for the Rock Roll Half in San Antonio and can barely run 4 miles. I have a nagging injury to my gluteus medias that's trying to keep me down but I will overcome it.

  17. Great job! You are awesome. Don't stress about your pace right now and don't get discouraged by the 10 miler that blew chunks! I have run 2 marathons, my first I came a little under 5 and the 2nd was horrible 5 1/2 hours. The weather plays a major factor in your speed and consistency. My second marathon was extremely windy. My hat flew off 3 times while I was running and the wind almost knocked me and the porta-potty I was in into a field. It was crazy! I beat myself up so much while I was running because my speed was so much slower than the first marathon but after some reflecting and some long runs (not a race) I realized that that marathon does not define me as an athlete. As you know from being a runner, you need to have the perfect conditions to have a great run and that rarely happens! I know you are going to rock your marathon! If you need any tips feel free to ask me.
