Post Baby Running Plan


 I need a plan to get my groove back for running! I'm not sure exactly what my problem is, but I need to get some kind of goal in place to motivate myself. While I was pregnant I ran up until 27 weeks and I pretty much thought my Gina was gonna fall off so I quit. I went for my first run after baby around 6 weeks and it was ROUGH. Like a LOT harder than I thought it would be. Some of it is the 30 extra pounds I got going on, some of it is the heat/humidity, and the rest is just aches and pains of getting back in to it.

So basiclly I'm just ready to kick my own ass - here's the plan.

1. Sign up for a half and tell everyone about it. 


I was only hesitant to sign up for this because I live in Texas and it's going to be hot as all get out in September. Like 90+ degree hot. I thought oh well I know I won't PR {my best is a 1:57} so I will just have fun with this one and it will give me a goal to work towards.

2. Text everyone you know who runs and ask them to meet you at the crack of dawn on a Sunday.


Gotta get out early before it gets too hot! I did find one unlucky lady who was willing to run with me :) Thanks Kati!

 The humidity was around 115% and I was DRIPPING from every single part of my body, but I felt awesome after we did 8.5 miles. We took walk and water breaks, very important to stay super hydrated, you will run better! 

3. Set a weekly mileage goal.

I'm not one to run on a plan, some days I feel like it and some days I don't. Instead I've set a goal to run at least 12 miles PER WEEK for the next month. If I do more great, but I need to get in at least 12. This means I have to use the dreadmill. Shoot me now. 


I forced myself to do 3 this morning before turbo kick, I'm pretty sure I had about 8oz of milk going on in those too. That's will power right there - I'm so over the boobs. 

Welp, that's the game plan, lets pray I can stick to it! Anyone want to come run with me on the weekends?? Huh, anyone? I'm not above begging!

Also - I bought these socks when I was preggo for the half that didn't happen and then I quit running so I just got around to trying them - uh LOVE EM! They keep the tootsies from rubbing together and are super comfy.


Oh yeah - abs all day every day. I ain't trying to get a 4 pack, but you will run better and faster with a tight core!

  4. I feel you on the running . . . I so need to get back at it and it's way better with a friend. But gah, the heat. I live in GA so I feel you on the humidity too! You are doing awesome though - thanks for the inspiration!

  6. I am training for my first 5k in 8 weeks. EEcch and haven't been feeling the motivation. BUT I am going running tonight no matter what!!! Love your motivation and ways you get yourself going.

  7. You are such an inspiration Megan! I am seriously contimplating running that race! Eeeeeeee! I was just given the advice to find a running group/buddy...hope I can find one to make my training more fun!

  8. Sounds like a great plan! It's hot and humid here in TN too so I've been running in the evenings some too. I don't get up quite early enough to beat the heat in the mornings. It's kinda hard when it's already 80 at 6am, lol. I read an article that it takes 10 running days to adjust your body to the heat and only 3 days to lose that acclamation so I've been using that as my motivation not to skip days.

  9. Great post! I haven't ran at all since I ran my 5 mile race 7 months ago but I want to get back on it so I signed up for my first half on November 2nd. I am so terrified but so excited at the same time. I am addicted to that feeling of crossing the finish line. I suck right now but I know that I will get back to where I was plus some. I like the idea of setting a weekly goal instead of a set schedule. I don't do well with that either. Thanks for the tip!
