I think I may have mentioned a time or two how traumatic Madison's birth was for me, not that birth is ever fun, but nothing about my experience was conducive to bonding with a new baby. Maybe it was because I was a new Mom or because it was hard but I had a hard time bonding with Madison for the first few days.
This time around I prayed for a better birthing experience which is most of the reason I chose to have a repeat C-Section. I just couldn't bear to think about laboring for hours again just to end up having one anyways. So Aiden's birthday was set as March 5th.
I didn't have to be at the hospital until 10am which was nice, we slept in a bit and took our time packing and getting ready. Obviously I did my hair and makeup {just some foundation and blush - no eye makeup}, took a nice hot bath, and painted my nails.

We checked in and they monitored me for about 2 hours while we waited for my epidural. My parents, sister, and Mother in Law all came and hung out with us. The epidural was probably the worst part of it all, trying to relax while someone sticks your spine is hard to do. After that I was wheeled to the OR while Oliver put on his scrubs.
While they were prepping me in the OR I started to freak out just a bit, but they had this one guy in there who really talked me through it and calmed me down until Oliver came in. They made sure to take the time to show me that I was numb before they put the sheet up and they left my arms untied, which I really appreciated.
I was much calmer this time and when I heard Aiden's first cry I started to cry, it was so sweet. Oliver didn't get to cut the cord, but they let him feel the cord pulsating afterwards, I donated our cord blood. They weighed him 7 pds 13 oz and 20 3/4 inches long, then wrapped him up and gave him to Oliver to bring to me while they finished tying my tubes and stitching me up.
This was the best part for me, with Madison they showed her to me and wheeled her out taking Oliver with them. So I was left alone while they stitched me up and I was in recovery alone for quite a while too. This time Oliver and Aiden were with me the entire time.
Immediately after getting to recovery the nurse unwrapped him and put him in my gown for skin to skin, to which Aiden promptly started to root around for some booby. We had no issues with him latching thats for sure! Oliver left and let my Mom bring Madison in, she was so excited to meet her little brother.
We stayed for 2 more days, Aiden couldn't be circumcised until Friday because it can interfere with breastfeeding. I felt so much love, Aiden's fan club sent me some gorgeous flowers and a gift card, someone sent Sprinkles cupcakes, a yummy fruit bouquet, and lots of people came to visit. It just made my experience that much more special, thank you to everyone who showered us with well wishes and love. THANK YOU THANK YOU!
This were unsigned, but whomever sent them please know they were amazingly delsih!
and that's the story of how Baby Aiden came into the world.

Congratulations. I am so glad your birthing experience was so much better the second time around. I too felt a hard time just taking it all in with complete and total bonding when I had my son. I think it was due to the fact the first night we had far too many visitors and too many people in the room during the birth. my lovely hubs and I didn't get to just enjoy the three of us. It was still a beautiful day none the less. xoxo he's gorgeous what a great way to complete your already amazing little family
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! He is precious…and makes me want another :)
