26 Weeks! Last week in my second trimester and I'm feeling very pregnant. I run out of breath often, I can't tie my shoes correctly, I pee every 20 minutes, and I feel a lot of stretching going on. What I have noticed is that I'm still sleeping really well {despite the bathroom trips}, I've only had a few episodes of heartburn {had it daily last time}, and my back is not hurting! With Madison my back was in constant pain from 22 weeks on, I was always getting massages and they didn't help very much. Maybe I should have spent that money at a gym, haha.
I am carrying this baby a lot lower, he is constantly kicking me wayyyyyy down there and it's not comfortable. I'm still craving carbs over sugar, getting back to my regular eating is going to be hard, for Oliver and I! I've been slacking in the cooking department lately which affects both of us.
I know most of you scoff at us southerners and our 'cold' weather, but the fact is that our good state is just not equipped for dealing with it. They don't come around and salt our roads, people are not used to driving in it, our drought ridden trees were bent to the ground under the weight of the ice causing power outages. It's just a mess all around.
Friday I worked from home, with a toddler it was interesting. She kinda gets to be quite while I'm on a call. Then she gets bored and forgets and starts building forts behind my chair and making a gigantic mess.
Since we had no plans for the weekend I thought we may as well head to the dealership and take a look at a few cars, Oliver's truck will not hold two car seats. We decided to keep the truck {you always need one in Texas!} and also to keep our Camry for Oliver, but I was undecided on what kind of car I wanted. This is the problem, I hate spending money on cars, in fact we've never had a car note. I just think it's the worst investment you can make, BUT hauling 2 kids and a stroller and a Mimi around shopping can make you run out of room real quick. So we decided to get something a tad bigger.
We've rented a minivan for road trips before and really liked them, but we went to the Honda dealership and I just couldn't. I sat in that car and couldn't imagine spending my hard earned money on something i didn't love. So we looked at an Acadia, it was nice, but I didn't love the middle seats I thought they were too close to the front, not enough leg room. Next we looked at a Pilot {liked!} and a Denali {loved}. What I loved about the Denali was that it had captain chairs in the middle and not bench seats, but it was above our price range. We left to talk about it at lunch and decided to check out the Toyota dealership before deciding. We saw a few others and then we saw IT. A Highlander. I LOVED it, captain chairs, 3rd row, upgraded options, low mileage, and it was closer to what I wanted to spend {but over Oliver's of course, haha}. We couldn't really take it for a proper test drive because of the ice so Oliver's going back today to go over it and hopefully I'll come home to a new car. I told him I was FEELIN' it, pretty much how I make all big decisions in life.
Cheers to unfrozen highways and getting back to work!
I want a Highlander, too! They are so nice, and in a great price range. I'm hoping to move close enough to my parents that we'll have a Granny riding with us soon, so we need something bigger. Hope y'all love it on the real test drive and you get to come home with it!
ReplyDeleteYou look great preggo!! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you all survived the deep freeze!
ReplyDeleteI have a Highlander, and I LOVE it! It holds 2 car seats comfortably, and still has plenty of room to pack stuff, and people, inside!
I still have a tree down in my driveway. Totally crazy. I am working from home today. Highlander is awesome. Hope you have a new car
ReplyDeleteI used to have a Higlander- you will LOVE IT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a highlander...it was the first new car I ever bought. It was AWESOME! In fact, my dad still drives it with over 200,000 miles! Now I'm in the Rav 4, also a great car, but for a family the Highlander would be my pick too. Hope it works out!
ReplyDeleteI have the 2013 Toyota Rav4 and LOVE it! I never thought I would love a Toyota over our old BMW but I was wrong! Hope you get your new SUV :)
ReplyDeleteYour belly is so freaking cute! Can you do a tutorial on how you do your makeup? Pretty please!
ReplyDeleteOh you southerners. Lol. I told my friend from TX I needed to come down there and WIsconsinize her. Lol. But I totally understand where y'all are coming from. If you don't deal with it on a regular basis it's a huge thing. Up here it's like a Monday. It happens every week:)
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the vehicle situation. I'm with you on the Denali they're just so pretty. Lol
I just had my 2nd baby in April and we got an Acadia in May...I love it but mine has the captain's chairs for the second row instead of the bench. It's amazing! :) Good luck with the car hunt!

ReplyDeleteHow exciting!!!! Those are pretty! Hope you get a new vehicle today! :)
ReplyDeleteHi there, I've been reading your blog for a while, but first time commenting! Could I ask what bra you are wearing? It looks really comfortable and supportive, I am actually pregnant at the same time as you (due March 17), and am in desperate need of one! Any recommendation would be great. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYay for a new vehicle! I hope you get the one you loved! We were just talking about vehicles this weekend and I really wish I could get a new one but your right, they are such a terrible investment! That's pretty crazy about the snow you are getting down there! I live in Michigan so we are used to the snow but we definitely didn't get it like y'all did already!
ReplyDeleteMy dad has a Highlander and I'm seriously jealous! It's definitely on our wish list for our next vehicle. You'll love it. (It has rear air too!)
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on not being able to handle the weather! Thankfully we just got rain all weekend, but when I woke up this morning the current weather was "snow flurries" with a high of 73 for today. Makes a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the car! We looked at the Durango, but because I've never done the car seat thing before, I didn't want the captain's chairs for the second row. We chose the Ford Explorer with the bench seat in the middle, but it also has the third row that folds down. If the Highlander falls through, you should check out the Explorer or the Durango!
Such a cute bump!
ReplyDeleteYou live in Texas, so I'll give you a free pass but don't ever pour warm water over your frozen windshield. It can cause your glass to crack.
It sucks, but up here in Michigan we just scrape, scrape, scrape until we get it all off. Remote car starters are also helpful to warm things up a bit before going outside.
I once flew to Dallas (intending to go to Oklahoma) in the middle of a snow storm. My flight to OK was canceled, so we wound up driving from Dallas. That was quite an adventure.
ReplyDeleteMy mom bought a highlander almost 10 years ago and it is still going strong! It is one of the most reliable vehicles ever made, I think you've made a great choice if you go with that! The Denali would be pimp, lol, but those things are HUGE.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you also make large life decisions just by "feeling it." Haha. I got a new car in May, and I knew it was the one. When you love it, you love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Yaaaaay for loving the highlander!!!! I LOVE mine. Don't have kids but I know since it's a Toyota I probably will still be driving it when I DO have them, so it was a good investment.
ReplyDelete28 weeks this week for me - we sold our Jeep and got an Acadia and LOVE it! But ours must be configured differently because we have huge (like front seat) captains chairs in the 2nd row and a bench seat in the back. We have not installed the car seat yet...it's way too early, right? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous y'all could get out on Saturday I was iced in all day :(
ReplyDeleteIi bought a Highlander a few months back. I don't have any kids yet but I wanted to be "prepared"...at least that's what I told my husband. It is the best car I've ever owned and I've had 4 in 5 years. I swear every time I get in it that I will never ever get rid of it. Hope you get it and love it as much as I do!
ReplyDeleteMy '04 Highlander is nothing if not reliable. I had 1 mechanical issue once but by the time I got it to the dealership (driving slowly) it worked itself out and the guys asked me "Ma'am, are you sure you had it in drive or were pushing the gas." It is expensive on maintenance, but it will last you 10 years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing about your weekend! I'm sorry to hear about your half being cancelled.
ReplyDeleteI just ran my first half yesterday (in Houston) and while it was cold, I would have been devastated for it to be cancelled since it was first one.
I want to thank you for sharing your journey and inspiring others to take risks. I may have never gotten the courage to run 13.1 miles without blogs like yours to give me that extra push.
I published a race recap on my blog too, so feel free to stop by if you want.
Thanks again!
Jesse
Love the Highlander-I am hopefully going to upgrade to one the first of the year! LOVE the Denalis too!
ReplyDeleteI knew you would love the highlander! It does great for me and the girls. The seats are easy to move for room and extra passengers.
ReplyDeleteWe own two Toyotas, and we will never own anything else! We have a Rav4, complete with three rows of seating. I refuse, refuse, refuse to buy a minivan. Ever. If we ever upgrade the rav, we'll totally get a Highlander.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making it to 26 weeks; you look fabulous. I'm in my third year of infertility, and I hope to be as blessed as you someday. :)
I hope you get that highlander!
ReplyDeleteThe family I nanny for has a Highlander and they LOVE it...except the trunk. There is NO trunk space...unless you put the back 3rd row down. There is no way a stroller + groceries would fit in the normal trunk it has
ReplyDeleteFor those of us mommas looking for a new ride....give us the tour when you get it!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, you look super cute
ReplyDeleteIf you let your car run for about 20 minutes with the defrost on high, you won't have to scrape ice, or dump water on it :) That's what us South Dakotan's do...DAILY!
ReplyDeleteOh yay! New vehicle. It will be so worth it. I have a van and I'm so thankful for it, but not being able to get to the back without going through the middle makes it very hard to buckle up the kids. Not as easy as I thout it would be!
ReplyDeleteWhite vinegar works amazing at deicing windows! I've lived in CO and NC. I kept a spray bottle in my car and sprayed it on then used one of my kids plastic shovels to remove the ice before I got my scraper haha.
ReplyDeleteYou totally rock the bare belly prego pic!!
