Just because she's so dang cute in her Brady Band! |
Most of you know that I stopped weighing myself months ago. I did this because I was obsessed with that number and I wouldn’t even know what mood I was going to be in until I knew how much I weighed. That’s not healthy.
I started my ‘summer’ Advocare cleanse yesterday {they recommend one every 90 days} and I decided to weigh myself because I get asked over and over how many pounds I lose when I do it. I pondered it all day Sunday, should I or shouldn’t I?
How would I feel if it was higher than I deemed OK?
Is it really important to me?
Would I let it turn me into a raging B for the next day or two?
I made a deal with myself that I would do it and deal with it in a healthy and mature way. I wouldn’t go try to run off any extra pounds. YOU CAN’T OUT TRAIN A BAD DIET. Not that I’ve been eating badly, but anytime my number was higher than I wanted I had to urge to go sweat it off.
153.
Yep, that’s my number and I felt very indifferent about it. I guess I really have trained my brain to know that it doesn’t matter, my health matters, my muscles matter {to me anyways}, and my general happiness matters.
Just for a little experiment I posted a picture on IG and asked people to guess how much I weighed. Most people guessed between 135-145. This was actually surprising for me, we are always more critical of ourselves so I guess I think I look bigger, but that’s because my eyes are drawn to my trouble areas.
I weighed less last summer; the picture on the left was taken June 5th, 2012 at 148 pounds. The picture on the right was taken June 3rd, 2013 at 153 pounds.
super cute swim suit from Everything but Water |
Moral of this story: LIFT WEIGHTS AND FORGET ABOUT YOUR NUMBER.
I'm looking forward to continuing to lift and see what I look like next summer!
I will weigh myself again after the cleanse so that those who are curious about the results will know :)
You for sure need to stop by Taggin' Tuesday at Crystal Michelle's Mess, I may have revealed a little known fact about my past :)
See y'all tomorrow for Workout Wednesday!!
You look so great! Your swim suit is so.dang.cute. and you look amazing in it. Keep on rockin'! If I looked like that, I would not care what the scale said!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the post! I struggle with the number on the scale. I have to learn to let that go. You are truly an inspiration and I enjoy reading your blog to help keep me motivated! and FYI-you are ROCKING that bikini! :0)
ReplyDeleteI think you are a true inspiration and you inspire me daily. We have similar body types and seeing your leg transformation has reinspired me to get back into weights. Just started JM body revolution last week! Love you.
ReplyDeleteI've been goin back and forth about weighing myself and picking a goal weight or just getting to my favorite clothes and evaluating then. You sealed the deal. Weight is just a number. You look a lot slimmer this year and I love that suit!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing! I have to tell you, I go on the scale once a week and it can be a little painful, but when I do my measurements...that's the most rewarding!
ReplyDeleteQuick question...do you mix the fiber drink in just water or something else? It takes a lot for me to drink it and I'm struggling. Thanks!
Loooveee the new suit... You look fabulous...you are definitely a motivator :-)
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Thank you for posting this! I stuggle with the number on the scale and know I need to stop! You are truly an inspiration and I really enjoy reading your blog to help keep me motivated! P.S. You are ROCKING that bikini! :o)

ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!! You really look so good. you have the tiniest waist and you look SO SO FIT!! I sure hope you see that about yourself.
ReplyDeleteI've actually just broken up with the scale after years of at least stepping on it 4-5 days a week I finally said enough is enough and I'm not going to let it define me any longer. I have put it up in the closet and it will stay there until I decide otherwise.
Your daughter is adorable. I love her precious face!
I am super surprised! You "look" skinnier. But it isn't about being skinny. It is a out being healthy and strong and you clearly are!!!!! Go girl!!!! Such an inspiration!

ReplyDeleteYou look incredible and you inspire me everyday :)
ReplyDeleteI love the side by side! I'm sold on lifting now. I'm just intimidated and need to get over it. You and I weigh the same, I'm two inches shorter, but you look so tiny ALL the time and I continually feel like a blimp. I'm proud of you and your progress! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou look incredible and inspire me everyday! Keep up the incredible work!
ReplyDeleteOMG...that bikini is so cute and looks amazing! Kudos!
ReplyDeleteI stopped weighing myself too. It really affects my determined mood. I go by the way my clothes looks and feels. Love that striped swimsiut!!!

ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. I've been working out and weighing more... It can really make you feel like a failure, even though you're doing all the right things. You look fantastic in that cute, sailor-inspired suit!
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome!! The weight lifting has made your waist soo much smaller and everything look much more toned and fit!! Keep up the good work;) I love watching moms that care about their fitness. I'm pregnant with my third child and am so ready for it to get here so I can start on my journey to look good again;)
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! That new suit is the perfect fit for you. Love the bottoms. Keep on rockin Skinny Meg!!!
ReplyDeleteBoobies!
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome. Let's be bffs.
You look amazing - that picture on the right says it all. Wow! And I guessed 130 so keep it up. That suit is perfect on you, btw - so flattering!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I have started weight/resistance training within this past month & need to get my brain to ignore the number and focus on the results I can see & feel. Thank you, as always, for a wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING!!!! Love the suit!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic! Wow!! Again, proves all my running (including a few marathons) won't do much if I don't lift. You have inspired me to do that this summer too!
ReplyDeleteYou look incredible!! That swimsuit is so flattering on you! Proves that the scale is a lying whore! Keep doing what you're doing! It is definitely working!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I found out you like really, really, really, really like Ryan Reynolds. lol
ReplyDeleteI love this post ALMOST as much as I love you.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're so very right, the number doesn't mean SHIT!
It's all about how you FEEL!
You look amazing, your "trouble areas" are shrinking and you are HEALTHY!
You rock my face off.
And you look amaze in that bathing suit, btw. Better than the day we bought it!
ILY!
Ok, you have convinced me to start lifting. But I am super intimidated by the free weights side of the gym. I feel like I wont know what to do with everything! Any resources for explaining all that? How did you get started? BTdub, no way I can afford a trainer right now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference from the picture last summer! I started following you a few months ago. This is my first time posting. I had my Ah-Ha moment last night when I was eating my boyfriend's leftover ice cream and crying by myself in my apartment. I'm not severely overweight, but I'm also not comfortable in my own skin. NOW is the time for change. Thanks to you and MamaLaughlin for inspiring me to make necessary changes for my health and mental well being. Keep on keepin on!
ReplyDelete--Soon to be SkinnyKaylin
You mentioned your thighs being your worst feature... Girl! Your thighs are hot!! You have inspired me to get to the gym pronto! My biggest dream is to walk on the beach without my thighs rubbing. It won't happen this year because I leave in 2 weeks (hahaha) But, that is my goal for next year. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING & I LOVE LOVE LOVE your suit! and thank you for the honesty.... I have been allowing the number on the scale to have WAY too much control over my mind lately! You totally rock!!!

ReplyDeleteYour swimsuit is adorable! I love the cut of the bottoms.
ReplyDeleteIt has been hard for me not to obsess about the scale, but I'm getting better. You are right, it is just a piece of the puzzle, not the whole thing!
Wow!! You look amazing! I love that you truly have trained yourself to not care about the number and know that you are doing the best you can for yourself.
ReplyDeleteI am pulling myself together after a weight related meltdown and I am thankful for your logical take on the situation. Now I just need to train myself to do the best "I" can to look after MYSELF.

Wow! You look AMAZING!!! I love your blue & white striped bathing suit. So cute :) .. I guessed on IG that you were 138! I would of never guessed higher. You've got some killer muscles girl! You rock :)
ReplyDeletewow!!! You look amazing! the transformation is unreal! thanks for the reminder about staying off the scale. It always messes with my head.I seem to always gain a few when working out hard.
ReplyDeletethat is very much the moral because you look fabulous. if i didnt' know better, i would have thought you inverted the last two numbers.
ReplyDeleteOk. That really helped me!! I thought for sure you were going to be 130's.... I think I am going to only weigh monthly now! Sick of that number hanging over my head!! Really, thanks! I mean really THANKS!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on this mindset. I am trying my best to get there. I have decided to rely on my measuring tape, over my scale. And how my clothing fits to keep me on track.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing and it's so neat to see how much different weights can look and how much better a toned body with a higher # on the scale looks amazing.
You rock it woman, I'd kill for your arms! OK Not kill just lift for them right?
Thanks for putting this out there between you and Mamma L I've got two great women to look up to in this fitness journey.
You look fabulous! Muscle weighs more than fat. I remind myself that every single day. Thanks for sharing lady! You are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! Love your hair cut and swim suit too! I have been weighing myself every few weeks...and the number is staying the same...but I notice some of my trouble areas are looking more toned....I should just toss the scale! ;) Kaila from www.whatidoalldaykr.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteYour new bikini is adorable! And it looks really great on you. I have recently decided to stop weighing myself (for an indefinite period of time) because my mood would also be directly affected by the number I saw. I realized how unhealthy I was about the scale and decided to leave it for now. Thanks for reminding me I made the right decision!
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome! Your work ethic and positive attitude are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteLove. Love. Love this suit. You look great and thanks soooooo much for putting yourself out there. I can't tell you how much you have helped me become more comfortable in my skin and have pushed me out of my work out comfort zone. You are appreciated!
ReplyDeleteLove. Love. Love your suit! You look great and thank sooooo much for putting yourself out there. I can't tell you how much you have helped me feel more comfortable with my shape AND pushed me out of my comfort zone with working out. You are awesome and appreciated!
ReplyDeleteYou look great in that 2 piece from Everything but Water....makes me wanna trek up there myself! Look at how far you've come, it's such a wonderful journey and I'm glad you put your weight out there to dispel those rumors that the number matters. I broke up with the scale long ago and am so happy, I gauge by how my clothes fit. Keep it up girl and keep inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely cannot believe you weigh more now than the pic on the left!!!! You seriously look hot and incredibly tone! I struggle with the scale too and oh how I wish I could stop!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely cannot believe you weigh more now than the pic on the left!!!! You seriously look hot and incredibly tone! I struggle with the scale too and oh how I wish I could stop!
ReplyDeleteYou look AWESOME in that bikini Meg! So glad you know better than to focus on a number, love the pic and I am standing up and applauding you right now for this post.
ReplyDeleteWow! You look amazballs! I LOVE the new swim suit. I like how thick the bottoms are on the sides. And your boobs look great too. You are so inspiring, thanks for giving us your time everyday. It is very much appreciated! Luv ya;)
ReplyDeleteIt was so motivating for me to hear (and see) that even if the number on the scale is larger, it doesn't mean you aren't making progress! Being strong is being beautiful. Thanks for the encouragement! <3
ReplyDeleteYou look freaking AWESOME!!!! You are such an inspiration. It is great to see a real person that has gone through such a transformation, not someone who started as a twig and has become 'fit'. You rock! I always look forward to your new posts :) Thanks for always being real and kick a$$!!!
ReplyDeleteVery brave of you! You look amazing and are a true inspiration! Now I want to go lift weights right now...
ReplyDeleteyou look great megan! Keep it up
ReplyDeleteYou look great! You can really tell the difference in the two pics is from your commitment to strength training. Point proven!!
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING!! I have followed for a while but never commented before now...I know, I'm a creeper! You inspire me and I can't wait to change my workout game. I signed up for Crossfit and start next Monday! #NERVOUS
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I just started my post-second child weight loss journey about three months ago, and I'm obsessive about the scale as well. The problem is I am lifting and running, and I need to let go of my attachment to the number. I really needed this post! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou look GREAT in that pretty suit! Definitely much more toned and tiny looking than last Summer. Keep it up girl! You rock :)
ReplyDeleteWow girl, you look great!:) Thanks for always motivating me:)
ReplyDeleteI love "Everything But Water". Such a great post. The freakin scale don't mean shiz... I got on today and weighed in in at 145 but I still feel pretty good about...
ReplyDeleteI never comment, but I love this post so much I had to. I feel the same way about the scale. I never want it to take away from the great feelings I have from working out and living healthy. But your picture....your picture is 20x better than any feeling you can receive from a lower number. Geesh...it is the most amazing testament what hard work, weights and living healthy will deliver. You look fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI do a weigh in each Wednesday to see my progress since I've started a healthy lifestyle (3 weeks ago). I think it's important for people to know that at a certain point, they really are just numbers!! and they can be deceiving! great post!
ReplyDeleteYou look great Meg! Love the new swimsuit :) What did you do to get your midsection so toned up. That is my problem! Even when I lose weight, I still have that extra skin that won't go away!!!
ReplyDeleteElisha
YOU. LOOK. AMAZING. AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing and i love that stripped bathing suit.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your swimsuit! You look amazing :) Congrats on conquering the scale and focusing on what's more important- how you feel!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! That swimsuit is too cute btw. You've inspired me to put my scale in the closet for awhile and just focus on eating clean and sweating it out at the gym.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! Loving the swim suit too!
ReplyDeleteDang woman, You look great, I missed the instagram photo and question, but I would of sworn you weighed around 130!! You are smoking and my scales are gone and my weight training has started..a BIG Texas Thanks to you!!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you posted this! I have been battle the number on the scale this year too. I started out at 172 as an avid runner (just ran my first full marathon) but my diet was sabotaging me. In 2013, I began eating clean and have been journaling all my food intake and making sure I am getting all the food groups in that the dr recommended with my extreme exercise regimen. Long story short, I wasn't eating enough or enough GOOD stuff. Since then I went from size 12-size8. Size 8 in my norm. I have dropped to 152....BUT!!! BUT!!! BUT!!! After completing my full marathon, I decided to up my crossfit days and start getting more competitive. Since April 28th, I have slowly gained to 158. And this past week I have been restricting my diet (I shouldn't), been drinking tons of water, and have upped my mileage again. Because in my head, that will fix it. I weighed again today and guess what...still 158. But I am still in my size 8's comfortably. That dang number! HATE IT! But I do like what I see in the mirror. Definition! Toneness! And a healthy woman!!! :-). Great post!
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome!! Just goes to show that working out and toning up truly does make a difference.
ReplyDeleteThat bikini is nothing short of fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHi Meg!
ReplyDeleteSo I never leave comments on blogs.. I probably should since I appreciate you guys taking the time to write the posts, but after reading this post, I cant help but say something! You look so amazing! I am gearing up to start trying to pop out kid(s) and I currently work out 4-5 times a week (real hard) and feel strong, fit and just amazing. I have been so scared to lose that after having children (selfish.. I know) but after seeing you and how amazing you look, I am no longer scared. I will have to bust my ass, but shoot, if I look half as good as you do.. Sign me up! Keep up the amazing work.. You are an inspiration to all... Big or Small :)
I love your post!! I've always felt that how strong I felt meant more than the # on the scale, but I lost my way for a little while. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteNeeded to read this today! Thanks so much for sharing you look gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteGirl you look amazing, F that scale!

You look way smaller on the right. My scale hasn't budged in weeks and I've been lifting like crazy but people keep asking if I've lost weight. I think I may need to give my scale up because it does affect my mood.
ReplyDeleteI also started the Advocare cleanse today but I cheated already. The PTO gave all the teachers muffins today and I ate the top of mine but I threw the rest away. Hopefully that won't do too much damage.
You look FANTASTIC! I've been dying to see what bikini you picked out. So adorable.
ReplyDeleteI thought my waist was tiny....GIIIIRL, you look awesome! Wear that 153 as a badge of honor. You're kicking ass and taking names in the process! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYou are looking good at 153 or whatever. I looked at your blog from last year, the one called "My Weightloss Story (well, the first 100 pounds)." There is a link to it on today's blog, and you should look at that picture of you in a bikini from that blog, because you may weight a couple more pounds today, but you are way more toned!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that suit! & you look great. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou...in that bikini! I die! You look so insanely fantastic! Super proud of you and inspired by your dedication and healthy attitude. Team Skinny Meg all day long!
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic! I love the suit, and your curves are awesome! I clicked that link...is the photo on the left of a person sitting on the beach you?? If so, you have a come such a crazy, long way! What an awesome job! You should be proud of yourself! :D

This post was meant for me. I am in the middle of a weight loss challenge. I feel great, my clothes are fitting different, but the stupid # on the scale is not going down. It's amazing how much that # can affect me. Ugh! Thank you for posting. Oh and by the way - YOU LOOK AMAZEBALLS. That suit was made for you. Wow. LOOKING AWESOME!! Thank you for the continued inspiration =)
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING!! Also, it makes me feel better you weigh 153. Lol I weigh 153 and even though I can wear jeans that I used to wear when I was in the 140's there's just something about that #!! I keep saying I'm gonna stop weighing myself but haven't been able to kick that bucket. I love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteYou.Are.Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi! I found you on Instagram thru Brandi and I have to say You. Look. Amazing! I too have been on a fitness journey, and found that strength and cardio have worked for me. Keep on being an inspiration - you are changing lives!

ReplyDeleteTiny waist alert!!! You look amazing in that swimsuit! It's not about the number but it's hard get that into our brain! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou look HOT in that nautical bikini! Way to rock it girl! thanks for the comparison pics at different weights. It really puts the "number" into perspective.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you look amazing M.
ReplyDeleteThis helps me remember that I need to focus less on the number on the scale and more on how I look and feel.
(First time commenter, long time listener...)
I love this! Thank you so much for posting it. I recently started getting serious about weight training. My daughter looked at a photo of me from last spring and told me that I had lost "so much weight." Actually, I was exactly the same weight but 17 inches smaller! WEIGHT TRAINING WORKS!
ReplyDeleteAnd I guessed around 135 for you. :) I hope I look that good in a two piece when I hit the 150s. 30 more pounds to go! :)
I just wanted to let you know that you're an inspiration. I've recently lost 70 lbs and while my scale may say something similar to yours (though I imagine I'm much shorter, 5'4") I'm a LONG way from looking that smokin' hot in a bikin. Reading this post really makes me want to hit the gym and LIFT! Thanks for always being such a positive role model to us womens out here just trying to do the right things for our bodies and our families!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! That suit is gorgeous. It makes the boobies llo k fantastic. The sale is so stupid. I went on a juice cleanse and was up 3 lbs. D.U.M.B scale.
ReplyDeleteI think you look great!
ReplyDeleteYou are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love that you took a big step and didn't weigh yourself for months!
That number on the scale is just a number. It does not define you!
PS~I totally love your bathing suit!!
Thanks meg for the kind words on my blog! You rock---the MaMeg powerhouse keeps me motivated! You look absolutely fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat blue & white stripped bathing suit is SOO cute & super flattering!! love it!
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! You are such a motivation. I have been having huge issues with the scale. I can see progress, I can do more in the gym, but then I will weigh myself and be sad. I am going to have to give my scale a pink slip :)
ReplyDeleteI related to your struggle with the scale and the number dictating my mood. I too have cut back from my once weighing myself daily. your summer before and after pic is inspirational!! Keep it up
ReplyDeleteLove this :)
ReplyDeleteEspecially the before and after with you weighing less in the before. I would have guess about 135-145 as well. I think what you said is so true how our eyes are drawn to our problem areas. When I tell people how much I weigh they always seem shock but I think I look like weigh that much lol. I am also trying to avoid the scale it's such a mood killer when it really shouldn't be.
Megan you are amazing! You are rocking that swimsuit. Thank you for being a constant inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteA smoker?!? GASP! :) Here's a tid-bit.... i was too. Shhhh!!!
ReplyDeleteYou looking amazing and are rocking that bathing suit!!! Visiting that website now!! You rock SkinnyMeg! :)
ReplyDeleteWow!!! That bathing suit is so precious on you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what a difference the weight lifting makes in your shape! Higher weight, but definitely more tone in your body! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteNot that this is news to you, but Mama did a similar post today, and I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told her:
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU.
I had been thinking "screw the scale" lately, and this totally cemented it. Your pictures are concrete evidence of what a lying whore the scale is anyhow. You look FAB, and I never in a million years would have guessed your weight. Thanks for being such a healthy, honest inspiration! Love it!
You look FANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that Twilight Sparkle is in a Tyler's tee!!! They are the worlds best tee's!!! This may or may not be coming from a Tyler's-holic!!! lol
ReplyDeleteMeg what workouts (lifting wise) do you suggest for beginners? Do you have specific posts from when you started lifting?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Sherry

you are ROCKING that bikini!!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap SKINNYmeg, you look amazing. What a change. Keep it up girl!
ReplyDeleteHoly wow! You look amazing in the 2013 photo (obviously looked great in 2012) but I would have never guessed that you are a bit higher in weight...Muscles do the talking for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your story with the internet world.
I just lost about 15 pounds or so and I just realized in the past 6 weeks that I need to start lifting heavier and built muscle...so this is super inspirational. :) Thanks!
You look amazing!! I love that stripped swim suit, great choice!
ReplyDeleteI think you look thinner this summer and toned up.... One HOT MOMMA
ReplyDeleteWow.... Thank you for sharing. What an incredible lesson about the # and body composition.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS! I'm been a lurker on your site since I heard you on Half Size Me..thought I would finally leave a comment:) I LOVE the idea of weight lifting changing your body so significantly.
ReplyDeleteWow Meg, you look fabulous in that bikini! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteYou look great :) I have had to break up with the scale before and go by my clothes and how they fit/I look in them. It really can become a sickness of letting it determine how you feel. I now try to weigh 2x-3x a week or so as I'm losing weight to keep myself on track.
ReplyDeleteI love how you said, "YOU CAN’T OUT TRAIN A BAD DIET!" so true. You're an inspiration- keep it up.
XO.
I used to let the number be the moving force but it drove me crazy! I dropped weight at first but once I got into the routine of lifting (4-5 x a week), the numbers stopped dropping. BUT I look better in clothes. So, I guess it's the whole muscle weighs more than fat thing? I really did love reading this because the proof is in the pudding - the scales are not be all and end all! You look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI would have guessed 130 at the most! You look awesome! The number doesn't matter!
ReplyDeleteI would have guessed 130 at the most! You look awesome! The number doesn't matter!
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I've always struggled with the number defining how I feel. At time, if it was more than I think it should be I would immediately hate how all my clothes fit that day. Thank you for your honesty!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog today from a friend and I love love love this post. I am also a recovered scale addict/muscle lover. Your pictures are so inspiring! I can't wait to browse through the rest of your blog. PS. I want your swimsuit from this month--where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteI just found you through Jenn at A Healthy Makeover. Dang, you look great after lifting weights. I am needing something new to go with my cardio. I'm looking forward to reading through your blog and maybe even linking up next Wednesday.

ReplyDeleteyou look great girl! even 153 is a good number in my book to be at!
ReplyDelete
