As some of you might know Twilight Sparkle has been sleeping in our bed for the last four years. I don't talk much about my parenting because GOOD LORD I've never been critizied so much for something. I guess everyone feels their way is the best way {or the only way}, but if everyone was raised the same we would all be boring. SO the fact the Madison sleeps with us is just the way we want to live.
It started when I was breastfeeding and it was just so nice to lay in bed and do it, after I quit breastfeeding we did 'sleep training' in her crib. The Cry it Out method, which worked to a point. She would sleep in her crib for a few hours, but eventually throughout the night she would end up with us.
Then she started throwing herself over the rail so we had to get a big girl bed. She would start the night out in her room, but would somehow end up in our bed. I wouldn't even hear her come in, I would just wake up and she was there so it was hard to keep putting her back. I guess to be honest we loved all snuggling together and it didn't bother Oliver or me. Oliver's nickname when he was little was HUGGIE, so you can imagine where she gets her love of snuggling :)
When we first started trying to get knocked up I told Oliver she should start sleeping in her room, he resisted the idea so I let it go. His philosophy was that she would go to her room when she was ready. I never got pregnant so I didn't push the issue.
Well last week my Mother In Law and Madison decided to rearrange her room, the moved the bed from the middle of the room to in the corner against the wall. All of the sudden Twilight Sparkle was talking about sleeping in her bed. Not only is she sleeping in her bed, but she goes in there happily and goes right to sleep, no fight, no coming out to pee, no bribery needed. It might be a miracle.
It's the end of an era and I sure will miss snuggling with her little stinky baby breath and hard jabs to the stomach with her little feet.
In other news, Oliver is on his 'vacation' diet. His goal was to lose 10 pounds in the two weeks leading up to vacation, this way he can eat what he wants and come home Even Steven. Seriously.
I hate men, even if I WANTED to do this no way am I losing 10 pounds that fast.
And finally a little fertility update:
I've been taking my Bravelle shots since last Saturday, today at 9am I'm taking my Trigger shot, which makes my eggies drop. I have two eggs, one on each side, so I'm praying the God knows I can't handle two babies. This is my best chance at having one, if I have to increase my dosage my chance of multiple will go up as well. I'm also taking Estradiol to keep my lining thick, it's thinned due to my c-section with Madi. Saturday I start 200mg of progesterone daily. Sunday we start praying praying praying.
Don't forget to stop by tomorrow for Workout Wednesday!
Fingers are crossed! ♥
ReplyDeleteFingers are crossed! ♥
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed and prayers going up for you Doll!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for you! xo
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything!!
ReplyDeletePraying for you & success with getting preggers!! Twilight Sparkles is seriously adorable and that is great that she is transitioning naturally into her own bed!! I also agree with whole "lose 10 pds in a week" lol...life is SO unfair!!! haha
ReplyDeleteMeg, you are wonderful. Fingers crossed for you. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeletePraying for baby! We did a round of clomid with an HCG shot and an IUI and now are 11 weeks prego with TWINS!! so don't count it out! ha ha
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you with co-sleeping! Never really planned it but it has happened. I have a 2 1/2 year old and 3 month old. Sometimes the 2 1/2 year old will sleep in her room and sometimes she sleeps with us! I don't mind! I'm just tired of people judging me for my parenting! It is what it is and if it works for you then do it! Good luck with your shots! You're a great mommy! Twilight Sparkle is adorbs!
ReplyDeleteIt's so crazy how some of those things work out, like with your sleeping. When they are ready, they do it. So weird. Potty training was like that for my 2nd.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you! Co-sleeping was not my plan but it is working for us! So tired of other parents judging other parents! Do what works for you! At least that's what I feel! Good Luck with your shots!!!
ReplyDeleteTwilight Sparkle is adorbs!
I have a good friend who has a 4 year old that has slept with them since she was a newborn and she is a sweet, totally normal little girl. Everyone has to parent their own way and nobody should criticize, as kids are on their own timing.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed and lots of prayers being said for your fertility shots!!
praying for you megan!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the fertility stuff. I have no idea how that feels, but can imagine how hard it must be. I know several people who have had issues! Such a hard trial to be given!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting that Madi will be sleeping in her own bed! I can't sleep with anyone touching me, no even my husband!
Savannah is 4.5 and still comes in our room every night in the middle of the night! It used to bother me and sometimes still does (like when she hogs my side), but I always have to remind myself tht she won't always be this little or want to sleep with mommy and daddy. :)
ReplyDeleteBeen reading you for a long time, so I feel like I 'know' you a little & I know how much you want a second child....wishing you luck. You're a great mom & Madison would be a great sister!
ReplyDeleteI love that you co-slept with Madison! Many of my friends co-sleep with their kids and really enjoy it. I say, to each their own!
ReplyDeleteMy fingers and toes are crossed for you to see the positive results you are looking for from your fertility treatments.
- Caitlin, from Weights and Measure
I wish getting my little girl to sleep in her bed would happen that easy! I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't like sleeping with an octopus! Right now we told her if she was sleeping in our room it was going to be on a cot at the end of our bed. She even got a new bunk bed with a slide and fort under for Christmas and she could care less about it :-(
ReplyDeleteBonus, you now have a kid free bed to try in :P good luck!!!!
ReplyDeleteCo sleeping or family bed as some call it is such a touchy issue I did it with both my kids.. My husband works nights so it just seems to work for me, my daughter was like yours she was ready to go to her bed, then I had my son and he seems to like it just fine where he is so he may be my challenge. But my theory is if it doesn't bother me it shouldn't bother anyone else.
ReplyDeleteBonus, you now have a kid free bed to try on :) good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you have everything right to do what's best for YOU, but congrats on the seamless transition... And good luck with the fertility stuff - I have struck out twice in the last 6 mos (misses) and have said that I'm up for trying 1 more time... It's not only draining physically, but emotionally... {hug}
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for you.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is anything wrong with co-sleeping as long as all adults involved are okay with it. We co-slept with our kids. My husband and I always felt they are only little once and one day they won't want us. :)
I have my fingers crossed for you and your family!
ReplyDeleteI won't comment on your parenting (or anyone's for that matter) because I feel it's just out of line. Everyone is different :) Good luck as always in the fertility department. Crossing my fingers for ya!! :)
ReplyDeleteSending up lots of prayers for you!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right!I hate the way some people are so judgemental of other's parenting. :) You seem to be a wonderful mother and "Twilight Sparkle" is adorable! :) Praying for your health and fertility :)
ReplyDeleteOh...and Men's diets suck...my FIL lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks :{ BLAH!!!
I don't comment often though I am an avid reader :) I especially won't comment on your (or anyone else's for that matter) parenting style. In my opinion it's just not my place to do so. Good luck as always in the fertility department!! Crossing my fingers for ya!! :)
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say thank you for being real. I have always said you gotta do what works for you and your family and who the eff cares what anyone else thinks?! Best wishes on your baby making. You two seem like great parents and I am certain that whatever God gives you, you will be able to handle it perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteWe did not let our 6 year old sleep with us whatsoever but our 1 year old sleeps with almost every night. I usually wake up from in a kick in the side and he is there! My husband's grandma says let them one of these days they won't want anything to do with you :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!!
Crossing my fingers for you!! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure people have very strong opinions on how to raise children. I, for one, don't think that co-sleeping is a great idea and it definitely wouldn't work for us. But if it works for you AND your husband loves it, why not? God bless you with your fertility treatment!
ReplyDeletehappymedley.blogspot.com
You are in my thoughts! :) Congrats on getting your little girl in her own room...that must have been a hard transition. I cried when my daughter did it at three months...lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL to Oliver's vacation workout plan. I wish that was how it worked for me. Oh men...
ReplyDeleteSending all kinds of positive fertility thoughts and energy your way :-)
1. You are an AMAZING mother and people judging you for what you do with YOUR child is ridiculous. Don't listen to them. You know whats best for your family. Period. Everyone else can suck it.
ReplyDelete2. I love you. in a non-lezzy kinda way.
3. I'm praying for those little eggs of yours. :)
Why don't you just have two babies and I'll take one? ;) LOL. Good luck! I'm praying for you.
ReplyDeleteSending positive thoughts your way for Baby #2!
ReplyDeletePraying that this fertility treatment will work for your family! You are a DAMN good mother and deserve it! About the co sleeping.... It's no ones place to judge. We had our son in his crib until 2 and then somehow somewhere he ended up in our bed now at age 4. We have plenty of time to work on that :) keep your spirits up. You are wonderful SkinnyMeg!!
ReplyDeleteUgh.. men and their 10 lbs. I swear when I started P90X a few years ago all my hubby had to do was eat what I was eating and his lbs dropped off. Granted I was building muscle but still, what a bummer!
ReplyDeleteMy fingers are crossed and my prayers are being stated for you guys and a your hopes and dreams for this baby making to work :) oxox
I slept with my parents until I was 5. When I started to sleep in my own bed my mom or dad would lay with me until I went to sleep. One night, my mom was in a rush to get me sleeping and she said she had a lot to do. I was suspicious so I pranced into their bedroom and wouldn't ya know it she was watching the O.J. Simpson trial. I felt such betrayal :)
ReplyDeleteWe co sleep, no biggie they all eventually sleep by themselves. And my hubby is the same, loves to snuggle the kids and my 8 year old tough football player secretly loves it! Good luck and we will be thinking of you during the two week wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you get criticized for your parenting. I used to have really strong opinions on things like co-sleeping but then I had my second child and I saw how different kids have very different needs and what works for one may not work for the other. Besides, who cares if you sleep with your kid? Sheesh! People are weird. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with getting pregnant! You're right everyone has their own opinions (on EVERYTHING), but luckily we all get to make our own choices. It's funny that she's made the transition on her own. Gotta love not having to fight about it!
ReplyDeletePraying has started! Ya know, I've always heard that when the baby starts doing things like being potty trained, sleeping in their own bed, etc, that means it's time for a new baby. Maybe Twilight Sparkle has a 6th sense about this :)
ReplyDeleteI think that you're a wonderful Mama, a great wife..friend..daughter..all that good stuff! I don't know you and usually wouldn't place any opinions or judgments on someone for just that reason, but you seem to put so much of your self out there and for THAT reason I say Kudos to you!! I so enjoy your Blog and Instagram. Blessings, thoughts & prayers on bringing a new life into your loving family <3 ...and P.S. ... don't freak if it is twins. With a mother's love all things are possible! Sandra Ward
ReplyDeleteThoughts, prayers, and sticky baby dust for you! Infertility is a path I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to walk.
ReplyDeleteAs a twin mommy, I know I was doubly blessed and can't imagine my life without either one of my miracle babies. If you are blessed with two, I hope the initial surprise turns into joy very quickly. Twins are amazing!!!!!
Crossing my fingers for you too!!! My 3 1/2 year old starts in my bed. After he falls asleep about 8:45, I move him to his. There are some nights that he stays the whole night. There are others that he comes in mine. I am just going to enjoy the snuggle time before he is too big to hang out with mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you - I have a four month old and I already feel pressure to put him in his crib in his room which is quite far from our room. Yes, I know I could get a monitor and he'd be okay, but my instincts tell me he's good to go in his little co-sleeper by my bed. I figure, when he's ready to go in the crib (and I'm ready too), I'll know it and I won't feel like I'm being forced to do it. PS - I've been reading your blog for awhile and you are so inspiring! I'm just beginning my weightloss journey and damn is it hard!
ReplyDeleteI feel like you are write about my life with the co sleeping and infertility! My daughter turned 3 really close to when Madison turned 4. So I guess I can hope and pray that at age 4 she will say she wants to sleep in her room!!
ReplyDeleteYay, Madison!! How refreshing that it wasn't through crying, screaming and frustration that she took to her big girl bed! She's making it happen in her own time :) And good luck this weekend; positive thoughts are with you!
ReplyDeleteI will pray too. TS went to her own bed just in time for you and the hubs to sex it up good. Over and over. Do it. Make that person. This time it will be a boy!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter slept in my bed until she was 8. She is now 8 1/2 ;). Everyone has given me grief for it. But I did what was best for my family..not everyone elses.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter slept in my bed until she was 8. She is now 8 1/2 ;). Everyone has given me grief for it. But I did what was best for my family..not everyone elses.
ReplyDeleteNever mind waiting til Sunday -- I'll start praying now!!!! And dang men who can drop the pounds by just saying so!!!!
ReplyDeleteFingers and toes are soooooooooo crossed over here for you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEvery one (including non-parents) seem to have an opinion on how other people should parent. Good for you and Oliver for not letting people get to you! And awesome that Twilight Sparkle is willingly sleeping in her big girl room! :)
ReplyDeleteI will be thinking of you during your newest TTC journey. *fingers crossed*
I LOVE when people show how effortless children transition to independent sleep! We co-sleep with our 2 year old, and we all love it! I know it will be bittersweet when she grows out of it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a new baby to snuggle with soon! You're very brave (and inspiring) to share this side of your life :)
Good morning! I do love to read your blog :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of opinions about little ones sleeping with their parents. My babies all snuggled me in my bed a lot and one of the three was in our bed longer than the other two (maybe 3 years?). There's nothing better than snuggling up with your little one. AndI know the reasons behind them sleeping in their own bed and all....but let me tell you that the time truly does go sooo fast (I know, I sound old) and you can never get that time back with them. My son is now 16 and there are times I wish I could remember more of what it felt like to hold him and cuddle him when he was really little. They grow and change and the "issues" you have now will no longer be but will be replaced by new "issues". I say do what feels right for YOUR family and forget what everyone else says.
That was long-winded...sorry!
Nazy (nazysnews.blogspot.com)
Praying for you girl... hard...
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes on your journey for a second little miracle. I'll be praying for you!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the baby front Megan!! We never co-slept with our daughter, but I still get cuddles on weekend mornings. She gets up before I do and cuddles with me for a while before we get up. I love it! =)
ReplyDeleteKids are so funny! We never let ours sleep with us, mostly because we only had a queen and we were fat and afraid of smothering! But, when my older one was 2.5, he started sleeping on his floor. Every night and every nap was on his floor. Then his little brother turned one and we had this huge party and everybody was so proud of the big brother helping open presents and went on and on about how he was a big boy, and he went to bed that night in his bed and has been there ever since. Now our younger one is sleeping on the floor. Whomp whomp whomp.
ReplyDeleteHave been praying for you for a while but come Saturday I'll double up on the prayers for you ;) Good luck!! You seem like a great mommy and a great happy, optimistic person, so I know there is a baby out there for you :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sending positive thoughts your way...

Good Luck, I will keep you in my prayers!
ReplyDeletePraying for you!!
ReplyDeleteand Oliver sounds just like my husband: loses weight fast, eats whatever and hardly gains....so not fair.
So proud of little miss sleeping in her own bed!!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck! Hoping this is your month!

my tubes are crossed for you! and i hope it's only one baby.... ;)
ReplyDeleteLucky lady on your newly independent sleeper! We're co-sleeping with our 4 year old as well and she doesn't seem to have any intention on leaving lol. Maybe there's something to re-decorating/moving furniture though, it's worth a try! We're the same way though, part of us missing sleeping just the two of us, but the other part loves having her nearby bc that's just the way it's always been. :sigh:
ReplyDeleteI hope everything goes well with your fertility treatments; tons of prayers sent your way!
Sending a boat load of prayers your way lady!
ReplyDeleteI love that you share your fertility struggles on your blog. My little guy is 3 and hubs and I have been trying for over a year, with one miscarriage in the middle. My doc just put me on clomid and I'm have so much less anxiety just from reading your posts. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteoh mama i am keeping my fingers crossed for you! the trigger shot helped me! and i really hope the progesterone doesnt give you headaches!! and how awesome for your sweet girl to take to her own bed just like that after a rearrangement, who knew!
ReplyDeleteSaying a prayer for you! I'm on the same journey and will start the shots soon.
ReplyDeleteSaying a prayer for you! I'm about to start
ReplyDeleteI loved your Father's Day post yesterday, especially the part about your husband being a role model for how a man should treat his wife. This is so important, and I adore my husband for this very same reason.
ReplyDeleteIn my humble opinion, it looks like you have a very loving family and you're doing a wonderful job with your daughter (who looks happy and adorable). Why people need to throw negativity your way is baffling, because you're totally right about there being more than one path to doing this job successfully. Your kids (yup, plural... crossing my fingers for you!) are very lucky to have you.
Thanks for sharing your life in this blog!

I am watching "Katie" right now and it is all about infertility. I am praying for you and hoping that this works:) Also, congrats on the miracle of Twilight Sparkle sleeping in her own bed!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, girlie!!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely pray with you!
ReplyDeleteAwww, babies grow up so fast, don't they?? I'm hoping for the best for you, Meg! Will be thinking about you and hoping you get plenty of sexy time that leads to a baby! hahah :)
ReplyDeleteMy little girl will be 4 in Oct and we recently bought her another new big girl bed and just like that, the cosleeping was over. Most nights I do miss the cuddles, but when the timing is right for them it just happens. No one has the right to criticize or judge how we all raise our children. We tried for a year for her and it was the hardest year of my life. Good luck on the baby making!!

ReplyDeleteGood luck!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo how/when/where did you have sex with your husband while co-sleeping?
ReplyDeleteI love cosleeping with Haven... unless I want sexy time, or to stay up late, or to not get kicked in the face all night. :)
ReplyDeleteWe slept in my parents bed forever... if it doesn't bother you, it shouldn't bother anyone else. Best of luck with the baby making. There are thousands of us out here you don't even know, that care and excited and hopeful for you :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so funny how as soon as kids have that little bit of control it changes everything?! I think the room rearranging is a similar concept to when your kids help you cook they tend to be better eaters because they're involved in the process.
ReplyDeletePraying everything goes well for you with this next journey on your fertility adventure! Can't believe Madison is four, feels like just yesterday I held that tiny 5lb baby in the hospital :)
Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you!!
ReplyDeleteI think I may cry the day my little one decides she wants to sleep in her own bed. She the best snuggler!
You got this girl! Wishing you much luck this cycle.
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't count your kid- free sleep nights just yet. Our youngest is 7 and she still travels into our room in the middle of the night. I RARELY get woken up by it. I hate it, but my husband likes the extra snuggle time. It wouldn't be so bad if she was so big and we are being jammed into a queen size. Ugh...
I've got my fingers crossed and my prayers are going up for yall!
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best of luck!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, men and their weight loss suck. My husband started eating the same thing as me for all of his "main" meals and dropped twenty pounds. He still snacks five times as much as I do. He also runs seven minutes miles and makes it look easy. Life isn't fair.
Just so you know, I slept with my parents until I was 4 also, I turned out perfectly normal. Now my son has not slept in our bed since he was 4 months old. I think in parenting whatever works and makes everyone happy is the way to go. Good luck with getting knocked up!
ReplyDeleteI love all of these comments! For the longest time, I thought that co-sleeping was a shameful secret. Now, I have read & spoken with so many other mommas who cosleep that the judgement of others doesn't get to me. But, also, thanks for the fast forward in knowing that my 2 year old will eventually sleep in her bed the whole night :)
ReplyDeleteCo sleeping isn't something I am into but whatever works for you! PS it's so much easier parenting some one else's kid! Good luck on the pregnancy front!!
ReplyDelete
