My Weightloss Story {well, the first 100 pounds}

*Edited 10\15\12 This was a guest post I did, but I wanted to file it away on my blog for those of you who are curious about my story. I guess I could have written another one but I'm lazy busy :)*

I'm uber excited to be sharing my story at Mama Laughlin today, she's been an inspiration to me and I blog stalk her daily as I'm sure most of you do :)
My name is Megan and I blog over at Miss Madison's Charmed Life.
3 years ago I got pregnant with my first child, Madison.
I was 185 pounds.

9 months later I was 260.

Some things I learned from this:
1. Don't eat for 2.
2. working out is not dangerous for the baby {I quit the gym after my Dr expressed concern over getting my heart rate too high}
3. Peanut M&M's are not baby vitamins.
4. The weight will not 'fall' off even with breastfeeding. {unless your one of the lucky few}

After seeing one too many pictures that looked like this....

I decided to take charge of my weight and do something about it.
I joined Weight Watchers because honestly I needed structure on my eating.
 I also joined a boot camp even though I was scared. I was scared I wouldn't be able to keep up, that I would be the heaviest person there, or that I would make a complete fool of myself.
BUT I went anyways and you know what, I WAS the heaviest person, I WAS the slowest, and I could barely do half the stuff everyone else was doing.
I kept going back though, never missing a day. One day I decided to see if I could run a mile before class, I huffed and puffed and thought 'how in the hell does anyone enjoy running??' 
BUT I kept at it, walking\running and never missing a workout. Slowly it got better, my chest and ass finally stopped hurting from all the jiggling :)
I decided to run a half marathon even though I had never even run a 5k, I didn't follow a 'program' I just got my booty outside and ran at least 5 times a week.
I was about 175 pounds.

I almost died, my feet were killing me and I was chaffed in about 5 different spots, but I finished in 2:27!
It was amazing and I had never been more proud of myself. I was hooked.
I continued to watch what I ate {most of the time, I mean HELLO I didn't get fat because I hated food!}
I kept exercising {some would say I'm a gym rat now}

Getting healthy is not just for me, but to be a good role model for my baby girl.
She calls it my 'sweaty time'

It's something we can do as a family {the Husband is not quite as fanatic about it as I am though}

I finally hit 100 pounds lost and wore a bikini on vacation.
I may not have a perfect body but I sure worked my ASS off to get the one I got, so I'm gonna show it off!

I ran my second half 2 weeks ago and it was a beautiful experience.
I cried when I came across that finish line in 2:03.
THAT'S why I run, not to be skinny, not to be fast, but to BE the best I can be.
I know that sounds corny, but if you've ever felt that feeling you get it :)

I've been on a plateau for the last several months at 149 pounds. That's 111 pounds gone. 42% of my original body weight.
There are days I'm pissed off about it and others where I feel that it's OK, but I just keep doing what I should do.
I make the time to work out, I make healthy choices on food. What makes me feel good is knowing I'm giving it my all.
We are currently trying for another baby, my goal is to learn from my past and have the healthiest pregnancy I can. One of my goals is to run a half while I'm pregnant!

  1. I love this. I wish I had your motivation and commitment. I NEED it. I wonder, though, if your body is just supposed to be 149? It's not a bad number, you're curvy and muscular so it may be hard to get under. At my smallest I was 140-145, way before baby, and I'd do anything to get back there. I know I'll never be a size 6 (hips, thighs and butt are going against me) but I need to take a lesson or two from you in this area. Good luck!!! What number are you trying to get to?

  3. I just love this...and you! You have come such a long way and look absolutely FANTABULOUS!!!! You totally rocked that bikini by the way (which is so cute, too!) I am so deathly afraid of getting into a bikini next summer but I AM going to do it...hopefully LOL. You are so inspirational and work so hard, you ARE a SuperWonderWoman!!!! xo :)

I love reading your story and I think what you don't realize is that even though on one of your days of "crap still the same on the scale" you have those of us who visit your blog and think "I hate her". But only because you're actually doing what we won't get off our ass to do! I'm so guilty! I LOVE that you take awesome pictures and post them. That's my goal because of you..Not to be super thin or look super great but not be embarrased to take pictures of myself and post them on my blog. The few you see of me are the best one's I have but I'm going to change that because of you. And NO not even my doctor who says I need a change. But you my dear! So keep uplifting us even if we hate that you look so great!! We just want to be like you!! :)

  16. You ARE amazing! Add another stalker to your list. I'm hooked! I went through the sameish journey with my first baby I have 3 now and I'm working at rescuing the skinny girl from the big eater that ate her. Ha! Great job to you. You can do whatever you set your mind to!

  18. Just found your blog via Mama Brandi! So glad I did! Running my first 5k on Sunday after a life of avoiding running like the plague. Love it now (my FB status yesterday read "who would have thought I'd ever run 2.59 miles just for fun... bring on the 3.1!). Been reading your posts today and its finally flipped the switch for me about getting back into weight training. Breaking out those weights tonight!!!! Thanks!

  21. You have done a great job! I have been struggling SO much to get healthy lately and it's encouraging to see other people that have done it and who have lost as much weight as I need to lose. Although it is encouraging I still can't seem to motivate myself to actually do the work. :/
