So this weekend marks the one year anniversary of running my first race! It was a 5k I did with the Hubs :) To celebrate we decided to run a 10k with my brother {his first!} and HOLY COW was it C.O.L.D. 30 degrees, 15 mph hour winds, and not 1, not 2, but 3 STEEP hills. Like my HR was 192 when I was going up that hill!

I'm really glad I decided to wear running tights under my pants and two shirts because, with the wind, I thought my nose was going to freeze and fall off!
I set a new time, 57 minutes, which is 3 minutes off my previous time for a 10k. Considering the wall of wind and the hills I pretty happy about that. Of course my brother, Ben, beat me with a time of 54 minutes.  He has long legs, what can I say :)
We rounded off our morning at Ihop, nothing beats a nice yummy breakfast after a great race.

Recapping my calories this week, I stayed within a 1600-1800 intake range.

Sunday- 9.2 mile run {1030 calories}
Monday- 30 minute run, 15 minutes on weights, 1 hour spin {1029 calories}
Tuesday- Rest
Wednesday- 30 minute run, 1 hour spin, 20 weights {1129}
Thursday- 30 minute run, 30 min spin, 1 hour Body Pump {1000}
Friday- 6.5 mile run {750}
Saturday- 6.2 miles {750}
Total burn for the week= 5,688

Weight lost = NONE. seriously.

A pound is equal to 3500 calories, but apparently my body did not get that memo.

Obviously I have the workout part down, I just can't find the sweet spot on my calories. I think this week I will try to stick to 1400 calories\day and see what that does.
Some days {esp. when I do a hard workout the evening before} I wake up HUNGRY. Like I eat breakfast and my tummy is still growling and all I can think about is food. Those days are hard. I tend to get angry and mean when I'm hungry.

It also helps if certain people wouldn't bring v-day peanut butter cups in the house.

Here's hoping for a loss this week! {oh and the will power to not eat chocolate!}

  1. Girl you are awesome! Maybe no loss because you are toning/gaining muscle :)

  2. That sucks about the weightloss, but congrats on running!!! I'm thinking of doing my first 5K some time this year but I plan on walking with a bunch of friends and maybe Lily too. :)

  3. Dang girl you are a work out machine! Great job. I know this is something hard to do but what about upping your calories instead of decreasing? You burn so many cals when you work out that your body may not have enough to function and may feel like it is starving therefore it its holding on to everything it can. I only burn about 650 on a cardio day and I eat about 1500-1600. I have only been losing like 1 pound per week but it is something....i was not losing anything at 1300. Just a little thought. You look fabulous and are an inspiration! Miss ya!

  4. megan- i used to be a pt so i sorta know what i am talking about....
    for the amount you are working out you are not eating enough to build muscle so your body is probably burning muscle and storing fat which is why you are not seeing numbers go down. i would suggest upping your caloric intake and adding more proteins so that you can build muscle and burn the right stuff. women are always shocked at this news, but it's true. last year i was working out so much and i lost 5 pounds (trying) and when i did i was still eating around 2k calories. and i weigh around 130. you have to factor in your weight, activity level and all that- do not cut out any more calories!! you may lose weight, but not the right kind and you probably won't feel great.

  5. ps- way to go on the 10k!!!!! sorry- i got caught up in worrying about your health that i forgot to say that. :)

  6. Keep staying positive!!! It will come. Your building great muscles by the sounds of it!!!

    Classic & Bubbly

  7. WOW, Megan!!! You go girly!!!! I hate when my body forgets the weight loss memo, too! It will even out- just keep up your GREAT work! Hope you have a great Sunday :)

  8. Megan when you are burning that many calories.. maybe you need to eat more and that's why you aren't losing.. I don't know for sure..I've heard lots of different ideas.... maybe try it? eat like back half of the calories burned so then your deficit isn't too much

  9. Wow, I can't imagine running in that cold yesterday! Congrats on setting a new time!! Looks like you're doing great with exercising. I wish I had some of your motivation!

  10. Congrats on your 10K! I signed up for one in April to celebrate my 35th :-)

  11. Oooh - V-day peanut butter cups are the devil. Great job on your 10K run time! Just awesome! And thanks for stopping by Smaller Sarah today - I love your blog and am your newest follower!

  12. Hey chick! Great job!!!!!

    Are you getting enough protein?? Hate it when the scale doesnt reflect, so make sure you're also taking measurements!

    Seriously, high five on that run! WOOOOP!

  13. First of all you are amazing!!! I'm so proud of you and what a way to celebrate your anniversary!!! I wish I could still run. Stupid ankles. Happy Valentine's Day my friend!!!

  14. Wow, that is inspiring! Keep up the good work! ... And be sure to stop by the party today. You were featured! ... Happy Valentine's Day!

  15. Hi Megan, it sounds like you are doing greats with your workout routine. I am not a fitness or dieting guru, but I did help my mom when she became diabetic drop the pounds. What I do is keep my calorie intake to 1200 calories a day and no more than 40g of carbs. You will drop the weight if you start counting your carbs as well. My mom and I both were not over weight but definitely could lose a few. After the 4 month mark I had lost 23 lbs and my mom 28. Good luck and you look amazing :)
